But traditionally, preparing means your Origin app, is doing background stuff to get ready to download the files.  Generally speaking, you get preparing, downloading and then Finalizing.  There MAY be some internet usage during preparing as it communicates with the server to prepare the download but no it isn't actually downloading the files.
