Supervisor Help: Hack-Related Apex Ban (C A L L 521)

Subject: Urgent Appeal for Account Unban & Keybind Recovery Assistance

Dear Apex Community Manager,

I hope this message finds you well. This is my first time reaching out to you, and I hope to share additional details and seek guidance. As a player from Mainland China, where there’s no official Apex server, I’ve been playing through a VPN/accelerator and my passion for the game has never faded. My Apex Legends account (username: C A L L 521) doesn’t hold high monetary value, but I’ve put 400 hours into it since Season 18—and it was banned after my Steam account was hacked on January 7, 2024, which has been deeply frustrating.

At the time of the hack, my Steam account was compromised by a hacker: my CSGO items were stolen, and after I recovered the account, reset my password, and logged back into Apex, I found it banned. What’s critical to note is this: the hacker who stole my account must have logged in from a computer with cheats installed. It was likely this—Apex detecting the login from a device with cheats—that triggered the ban, not any action of my own. Let me be clear: I’ve never used cheats in Apex, and I strongly resent those who do. This ban stems entirely from the hacker’s actions, not mine.

It’s also worth mentioning that the VPN/accelerator IP used that day was different from my usual login IP, which may have added to the anomaly detection.

Since the ban, I’ve kept following the game’s updates, and recently, seeing how much Apex has improved, I’ve been eager to return. I’ve submitted 4 appeals so far, but I’ve heard EA typically stops reviewing after 3. I did try explaining these details (including the unusual IP and hack situation) to support, but due to time zone differences and language barriers, I never got a meaningful resolution. That’s why this is my first time reaching out to you directly, hoping for more targeted help.

I’d be grateful if you could help get the account unbanned. If that’s not possible, I plan to make a new account, but I can’t remember my old keybinds. Do you know if there’s a way to retrieve my past keybind settings without being able to log into the banned account?

You can reach me via email: [edit: email address removed]. Thank you for your time and help.

Sincerely,
C A L L 521

    Hey call521,

We are unable to make any changes to your account here on the forums, including investigating or changing a ban. The only team able to review a ban or remove it from the account would be our Terms of Service team, via an appeal

If you have already completed multiple reviews and the ToS team declined to remove a penalty, I'm afraid that would be final and cannot be changed through any other channels either.

As far as the keybinds, you may be able to retrieve them if you're still using the same PC and Windows login as before. You should be able to check C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local and copy the settings.cfg file to make sure the keybinds are saved. If you're using the same Windows profile and PC, those should appear automatically, but you may wish to copy that file first just to be sure.

Just wondering, I deleted Apex from my computer before, and now I've reinstalled it—can I find my previous security settings in the folder?

That would really depend on how thorough the deletion was previously, but you can always check to see if those files are still available if you haven't already launched Apex again since reinstalling. That would be the only place to check that I'm aware of, so it would be worth a quick look in either case!

Thank you sincerely for your help. I’ve copied my configuration files, though I’m still unsure if they’ll work with a new account—but your assistance already means a lot.

I truly hope Apex keeps getting better. What matters most to players like me, though, is seeing the review system grow more precise. It’s painful to watch dedicated, fair players (who love this game as much as I do) get locked out because of wrongful bans. I hope the team can adjust policies around such cases: no genuine player should have to quit a game they cherish over a preventable mistake.

You might not realize how many passionate Apex players there are in China. We pour hours into this game, clinging to its fairness. I won’t deny there are cheaters—and they’re frustrating for all of us—but that’s no reason to let honest players suffer unfair treatment. Let’s make sure the system protects the majority who play clean, so fewer of us get pushed away by errors.

Thanks again for taking the time to help. Here’s to Apex staying a game we can all keep loving.

Thanks for the post and for the feedback call521!

Glad we could at least get the config files sorted, so you can pick up where you left off in that one regard.

Thank you so much for your help. I’m not sure if the config files will work, but at least I’ve tried my best. If they don’t, I’ll just have to start over.

It’s been a long time since I played, but I still love this game. I won’t give up appealing—even if it feels hopeless sometimes. I just hope one day Apex can clear my name, return my account, and let me keep playing with the account I once cherished so much.

Thanks again for everything you’ve done. Wishing you all the best—may you stay healthy, happy every day, and keep helping players like us. Here’s to Apex getting better and better, too.
