Updating to Windows 11 broke my game

Hello,

I am a PC Steam player who was able to reliably run Apex before updating to Windows 11, but after doing so my game is running horribly. I have not made any changes to the game settings (such as graphics) after the Windows 11 update; under the same settings my game has started to have these issues that I did not have pre-update:

  • Every time I start up the game “Compiling and Processing Shaders” pops up. Although this is an inconvenience at best it is notable that it never happened before the Windows 11 update. “Compiling and Processing Shaders" takes about a minute to load.
  • I get around 15 frames per second, both in the firing range and in matches. I do not know what my FPS was pre-update because the game ran quite smoothly.
  • Audio regularly cuts out, and when it doesn’t, a horrible sound that sounds like fire crackling plays
  • All movements and interactions are delayed. This is not an issue in the firing range, only in matches.

Does anyone know of a solution to help my game run smoothly? No other programs are running when I play and my drivers are up to date. I have tried various solutions posted online: after disabling the Xbox game bar and reinstalling the game the issues still persist.

  • Heya @FouryintheHouse,

As far I'm aware, Apex doesn't support Win11 officially yet.

I'm not really aware of any issues with Win11 that could be causing it, though it could be general incompatibility.

Certain hardware might not produce proper results when using Win11.

Does this issue also show up with other games, or is it only happening with Apex?

It's also possible that your GPU drivers are still outdated for Win10, make sure to update them properly.

To me it sounds like your PC has some issues with the drivers, so updating all your drivers could fix this.

  • Hello there,

Thank you very much for your response. As far as I know the issue is only occurring on Apex Legends. However, this might be because my other games are not as hard on my computer as Apex is (Fall Guys, Stardew Valley, Sims).

I updated my GPU driver as you suggested but the problem still persists. Practically nothing has changed after I did so: the FPS is still 15, all my movements are delayed, the horrible crackling still plays.  Are you aware of any other potential solutions?

    Hey hey @FouryintheHouse,

I've heard about Win11 interacting badly with certain AMD chipsets.

If you have an AMD CPU, it's recommended to follow this video to update them:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGUz8wubCII&ab_channel=TechRated

Make sure to have your Win11 updated to the latest version, running on an older Win11 version might also result in general issues.

Next to that this video might also be of help:

(Be careful when using regedit, follow the steps that are documented in the video)

Hopefully one of these things is able to resolve your issue!

  • Hello again, @XHelperZ,

Thank you again for your suggestions. I do not have a AMD CPU, so I followed the second video: using regedit and updating my chipset driver. However, aside from the menu loading slightly faster it has made practically no changes to my game.
