230 hours in, my 2 cents as BF player.
Hi all
Haven't been on this forum for a long time, ever since the 2042 Season 7 times.
Anyways, been playing BF6 since release for quite a bit, currently sitting at a little over 230 hours on Steam.
For me, the game in itself feels amazing. It's most of what I've wanted for this franchise for some time. A little smaller maps, big focus on gunplay and gun customization, loads of meaningful destruction and smart map design.
And of course, this game, as every other BF, has some major issues. Currently, the audio is completely broken. Audio overhaul patch coming on December 9th, so hopefully it fixes that.
Netcode is BF4 launch levels of dodgy, dying behind cover, shots not registering, and stuff like that. Again, the December 9th patch is aiming to improve it.
There are other issues, like the class balance, that have to be addressed. But I think it's good to fix core mechanics and netcode first, before fiddling with the balance.
Netcode and balance issues aside, this game has an amazing core. After BF5 and 2042 disasters, it feels so fresh and relieving to have a Battlefield game that works as intended.
The maps are a controversial topic for sure, but I'm really enjoying smaller and more focused maps. After running marathons in 2042, this is exactly what I needed. Small, focused, action-packed, but most importantly - smartly designed. Yes, those maps are small, but they never feel like it. I don't see a single choke point with 20 people throwing grenades at each other like Metro, Argonne Forest, or Marita. Even 2042 suffered from these issues with its insane map size. But in BF6 the action always flows; it never halts. I always feel like I have options for moving around.
Guns feel amazing. So far, I have Mastery 50 on 10 or so weapons, and all of them feel unique and powerful in their own way. The attachments system is deep and decently thought out, although some prices and vague item descriptions do need some work. Having words such as "Reduce recoil, slightly reduce recoil, moderately reduce recoil, and greatly reduce recoil" just doesn't sit well with me. I need hard numbers like in BF4.
Vehicles are where the game needs a lot of work, air vehicles in particular. Damage humbers are all over the place, and helicopters feel like they have no lift.
Jets need the damage of their main cannon reduced against air vehicles. Tanks need more splash damage and more health. IFVs are quite balanced IMO. Helicopters need a higher sky ceiling, more lift power, and agility.
Other than that, I'm enjoying this game ALOT. This is the first time since BF1 that we got a fully functional game on release. I really hope they will keep up with the post-launch support and keep more content coming.
If I had to give it a rating, I would give 8/10
Cya on the battlefield!
