A few words to EA
Hello,
First of all, I’d like to point out that most of the information I’m sharing below includes both my own observations and feedback collected from other players. Some of the issues I’ll mention also concern promises that, unfortunately, have not been fully kept.
Let’s start with the matter of the battle pass. Introducing an expensive pass system in a game that already cost 70 dollars at launch is quite controversial. What’s especially concerning is that progression has been partially locked behind a paywall and tied to the battle royale mode.
I have nothing against the mode itself – I understand that it has its fans – but I’m simply not one of those who enjoy this type of gameplay. That’s exactly why I decided to buy the full version of the game rather than play free-to-play variants of this genre.
So my question is: why are players being forced to participate in battle royale in order to progress their character or advance in the game?
I’m not alone in feeling this way – many players who have recently left negative reviews on Steam point to this exact same problem.
According to earlier statements, bots were supposed to serve as an alternative to multiplayer – allowing players who don’t want to play with others online to enjoy a calm, solo experience or play in a small group of friends. It was meant to be an option for those who prefer AI-controlled opponents rather than real players. These promises were made by the developers and confirmed in official communications from DICE and EA.
Unfortunately, instead of fixing the server issues or restoring local play, the developers completely disabled the option to use bots without providing any explanation. In practice, this means that players who just wanted to play on their own – without online multiplayer – have been stripped of that possibility.
It’s also worth mentioning the consequences of removing bot servers. In the past, many players used this mode not only for casual fun, but also for testing weapons, vehicles, and gameplay mechanics, as well as unlocking equipment without having to compete against real players online.
Now, with this option removed, new players find themselves in a particularly difficult situation. Many users who had access to the bot mode early on have already reached high levels (over 100 in some cases) and unlocked most of the weapons and upgrades. Meanwhile, those who joined later can’t train or progress at their own pace, which leads to frustration and a sense of unfairness rather than enjoyment.
As a result, a game that was meant to offer freedom of playstyle now backs players into a corner – forcing them to play online in full lobbies against better-equipped opponents, which drains motivation to keep playing.
Finally, I want to mention that the beta was truly an amazing experience – it gave hope that the series would return to the form players had long been waiting for. Sadly, the later decisions made by management, aimed at increasing monetization and profits, have slowly been destroying the work of truly talented developers.
I’m not sure if the decision-makers realize this, but it’s the players – the regular users, not just hardcore fans – who form the foundation of this community. Casual players are the majority, and they’re the ones who keep the series alive, buy new installments, and support the brand despite its past missteps.
I’ve been playing this series since Battlefield 3 and have purchased every single entry – including BF2042, whose launch state can easily be compared to the early days of Battlefront 2.
Please – don’t waste another chance to regain the trust of the community that, despite all the disappointments in recent years, still wants to believe in this project and support its developers.
