No, in general, the maps are not too small. BF should cater for everyone and most people enjoy smaller maps (Metro is no doubt the most popular map of all time) but BF needs larger maps than it currently has. It needs at least another 10 maps.
The problem is not the size, it is the design. All the smaller maps are terribly designed, every C flag just gets completely destroyed and is impossible to hold on to. Because there are so many different routes in and out of every flag it means that a slighty strong team will gradually overpower a weaker team and take all the flags. There's no chance of a weaker team holding ground and defending a couple of flags, hoping that someone can sneak through, hide, squad mates spawn on them, and them cap the flag near the opponents base.
THERE ARE NO TACTICS IN THIS GAME, IT IS JUST DEATHMATCH WITH FLAGS!
