For the developers at DICE: Here is the solution to the Portal issues.
I personally think the developers are completely disconnected with the players in this issue. So i decided to write an explanation directed at them.
First of all, this would not be a problem to begin with if you (the developers) hadn't created the problem (either unwittingly or in purpose, it doesn't really matter at this point). So the first step to fix this is to identify the causes of the problem.
You set up the grind requeriments for unlocking weapon attachments so high that it takes 10x longer than any other previous Battlefield game. Then you set up some incredibly complex challenges, some of them literally impossible to do in normal games, and lock core class devices and weapons behind such challenges. Also, challenge progression is bugged in a lot of cases, so it makes the problem even worse for us players.
And then you seriously expect players NOT to set up bot farms in order to workaround the issues you guys created? I mean come on, it was obvious from day 1 that it was bound to happen.
Also, another core problem: You removed solo/coop mode, a staple (and basic) feature in every single multiplayer FPS since multiplayer FPS games were created in the late 90s: Being able to locally host a game in order to play solo/with a couple of friends against bots.
Many people used to grind attachment unlocks in solo/coop mode, so they could do it at their own pace without disturbing the online games. Others just wanted a relaxing play session against bots. But since you removed solo/coop, now the only way to get the solo/coop experience in BF6 is to waste Portal servers.
Portal servers should be hosting multiplayer experiences for 32 to 64 players. A single player should not be wasting an entire Portal server to have a singleplayer botmatch which he could (and should) be able to host locally.
You removed the option to do this locally, so now all the portal servers are clogged by people using them to either grind weapon attachments at a reasonable rate, try to complete impossible/bugged challenges, or just chill and enjoy a classic singleplayer botmatch.
And remember, these are THREE SEPARATE PROBLEMS which all contribute to the same issue:
1st problem: Weapon attachment unlock grind is 10x longer than it ever should be.
2nd problem: The basic core class devices and weapons are locked behind some challenges which are almost impossible to complete. Some even have bugged progression.
3rd problem: The game lacks a locally hosted solo/coop botmatch option.
Consequence: Portal servers are permanently clogged because people are using them as a workaround for all of the above mentioned three problems.
You want to fix the problem with Portal servers? Then you should start by solving the three problems which caused it.
1- Add a LOCALLY HOSTED SOLO/COOP botmatch option like every single multiplayer FPS has always had. Simple vanilla gamemodes/rules with bots, no custom mutators. This alone should also mitigate the effect of the other 2 problems. But don't forget that the remaining 2 problems should be solved aswell.
2- Fix the challenges. Change them to reasonable tasks, then fix the bugged progression.
3- Reduce the weapon attachment grind time to something reasonable, like previous BF titles.
The people who play solo/coop doesn't care about stats or K/D, so feel free to entirely remove stats from solo/coop mode. Nobody gives a crap about K/D in Battlefield anyway.
And finally, just to be clear: Skins, honor badges and such cosmetics, everyone is fine having to grind for those. BUT...
But Class devices, Weapons and Attachments are basic gameplay elements. These should NEVER be locked behind eternal grinds or impossible challenges. Unlocking these should be considered a "tutorial phase", but never an "endgame grind".
