Adding the ability to key bind the range finder was a huge mistake.

As the title says, I’m obviously talking about how most players have figured out how to bind their range finder/zero button to their ADS or hold breath button so whenever using a sniper rifle, they are always zero’d exactly to that targets range which is not only completely unrealistic, but it’s also made sniping a huge joke in this game that requires the use to only point and fire. As somebody who’s been sniping in Battlefield since BF2 and has landing 1500+m headshots using hold overs, or having to manually zero to range, this is a slap in the face to all of us who have practiced and perfected the craft of sniping in Battlefield. Now players can land shots any any range from 100-1000m (99% of engagements) without any skill involved. All they have to do is simple run the range finder and go into controller mapping and bind the range finder. This needs to be removed immediately but I understand that DICE cannot just remove an attachment but changes definitely need to be made. My personal preference would just be to just remove the ability to bind the range finder so the players using it will have to actually hold the zero button down to use the attachment as it was intended with normal controller/M&K mapping. Or, change how the range finder works entirely which I also understand is complicated. Showing a in scope range of whatever they’re aiming at would also be acceptable but like I said, removing the ability to bind would be the best option. Not only is this issue a slap in the face to players who’ve practiced to use the sniper rifles at distances efficiently, but it has also caused frustration for any player who wants to try sniping legitimately, and also for targets of said snipers using this binding method who are sitting ducks to players they can’t even see. I get that this is a video game but it’s also Battlefield which has always been the pinnacle of realistic sniping in multiplayer vs. mode video games and has always prided itself on being realistic. Ask anybody who’s ever fired a real firearm and attempted to shoot at long distances, no matter if it’s a civilian, law enforcement, or a military sniper, they will all tell you how difficult it is to land those shots, especially in one attempt. The ability to auto zero any target instantly at any time is absolutely a game breaking mechanic and should be amended immediately. Hope to see this fixed on the October 28th update. Thank you.

  • It's worse than that. If you bind the rangefinder button to the FIRE button, it automatically adjust itself whenever you fire.

So basically it's zero bullet drop, for free.

I think the rangefinder should be reworked, so instead of adjusting the bullet drop, it should just automatically show a number with the distance to whatever you're aiming at, without having to press any button. And then the players should have to manually adjust their aim according to the distance.

  • Not ideal, but one workaround to this:

Create a server and remove the range finder.

    Problem solved.

  • They should make it so it just tells you the range but you have to manually set it by using mouse wheel or analogue stick and removing the binding from key binds.

They absolutely can remove the attachment and they should, but they won't.

EA/DICE don't have the moral fortitude to do the right thing. Too worried about upsetting the very vocal killstreak monsters out there. Too worried about narrowing the over-broad appeal of the game even an iota.

The range finder is the perfect troll-lol for what this game wants to be. For what they want the franchise to be.

They don't want a tactical, team-based, co-operative, objectives game 'grounded in realism'. They want 32v32 ADHD battlefield-themed Fortnite. The "return to form" rubbish was just retro-trend marketing.

The rangefinder should just display the distance. The rest should be up to the player.

Having it instantly and automatically set the sights is just lazy ridiculousness.

Yet another brain-dead bit of design alongside the many many others from DICE.

  • this range-finder should be changed immediately to it's original properties and functionality this is ridiculous.. Whoever gave that idea should be fired..
