To be honest, the safest thing to do is just turn off voice chat and hide text chat, effectively disabling it. Doesn't matter that this is meant to be a Battlefield game.
If playing with others, use 3rd party comms.
As for what to do, doesn't seem like there is much that can be done. Your friend needs to decide if he still wants to support EA, or just go play something else.

Exactly -- I did that Day One.
I have played enough multiplayer online games and realized much of the chat is arguments or toxic comments fueled by the "safety" of anonymity.
Probably should keep your communications exclusively to your Friends List, I would say.
