Game design and Vehicle tuning from a Battlefield vet (PLEASE DICE)
This discussion would be from a multi game battlefield veterans perspective on some changes to improve the experience.
Game and Map design:
Painting and laser designation should be able to be cleared by exiting LOS, or going under the hard pan. The painting for air vehicles lasts entirely to long in my opinion
RPGs move at Mach Jesus, I would tone down the projectile velocity to add more skill in hitting at longer ranges. Also the damage to ground vehicles is kinda ridiculous, one engineer with 5 rpgs can take down a tank or even 2 with good positioning. Now imagine 10, vehicles really don’t stand a chance since they’re so easy to hit.
Tow missiles from all sources are entirely too easy to use from ground sources to hit Air vehicles, I would make adjustments to the turning rate to add more skill in use
AA missiles… have way too much range from ground sources. Stingers need to be reduced a little, but all air vehicle players know the oppression of the AA tank. Fix: AA Tank removed on some maps or remove the ability to shoot AA missiles from spawn areas where there is no counterplay.
Maps: Blackwell Fields, adjust spawn zone size(reduce) and airspace expansion to allow for full combat experience that was intended. Prevention of tanks camping in spawn and aircraft spawn camping is the biggest problem on this map
NEW SOBEK CITY: NEEDS A FULL REWORK. To many rooftop campers, map doesn’t flow very well. AA prevents any sort of air gameplay. The rooftops kinda prevent this map to be anything but a snipers nest.
Operation firestorm: slight spawn adjustment zone reduction, the only problem I see on this map is the hills play too much of a role in vehicle gameplay.
Overall, this game has good maps and great shooting experience. Well done DICE. Vehicles however is actually your biggest problem. Some changes I would suggest to help with the experience are listed below.
Vehicle Tuning:
AA Tank: Most oppressive vehicle in the game. Sits in spawn with no counterplay and is the bane of every pilots existence. Please adjust the lock on range to get them out of spawn.
Attack jet: Improve the turning capability to compete with the fighter jet, the air radar and gun tuning patch will be highly welcoming. Glass cannon is definitely the term I would use. I would also look into the 3rd person lock on missiles. Backwards misses is cool, but intended?
Fighter Jet: Amazing for air to air, useless for ground vehicles. I would make the bombs the same as the attack jet. Those mini bombs hardly ever kill and there’s a slight delay which makes the experience very disappointing for ground targets.
IFV: Best tank in the game. Almost too good, might be a little too fast but understandable since RPGs move at Mach Jesus. The tow missiles is the only issue (see above)
Main battle tank: A little clunky feeling, but good. Very powerful, I would look into 3rd person aiming because sometimes it’s a little wonky in consistency. Slight speed improvement would help escaping the RPG storm.
Attack helicopter: Fantastic, a little slow in my opinion in turning. But this is the best air vehicle by far, I would just slightly improve the engine and watch the destruction reign. I believe that RPGs shouldn’t one shot this vehicle, make it like the transport where is just heavily damaged. On some maps, it’s almost impossible to escape the TOWs and the RPGS. I would buff the health but be very careful bc this could turn into a problem. I would focus on the AA tank and the tow and RPGs first.
Overall Vehicle impressions: All vehicles besides the main battle tank are very glass cannon, adjusting damage values between vehicles would greatly improve the experience. But RPGS and tow missiles are dominant in the experience, I would adjust those launchers damage to allow for more diverse options. For me as an engineer main, I never take off my RPGs bc I can cross map bc there’s barely any projectile drop. The vehicles feel powerful to use, but it’s like holding a stick of dynamite, they just feel made to be destroyed in a instant instead of the line breaking or position holding intention of a vehicle.
Air vehicles are in desperate need of work, dog fighting is non existent, but with working air radar it would help. Please do the damage adjustments and air radar fix as top priority.
How many of you agree with these suggestions? And DICE, please consider the AA tank as a serious threat and let them leave spawn.
