I just encountered another one tonight. I was playing as Engineer at the time and was near some friendly armor.
I asked ChatGPT about it and that robot said:
In Battlefield 6, that shield with a tank icon means:
Vehicle Protection / Armor Support Buff Active
It appears when you are near a friendly armored vehicle and receiving its protection bonus.
What it indicates:
You are within the protection radius of a friendly armored vehicle.
The vehicle is providing a defensive buff to nearby infantry.
The buff typically means reduced explosive damage or extra survivability when fighting around friendly armor.
Why you saw it
From your description:
You were playing Engineer
You were near friendly armor
Engineers commonly fight alongside tanks/IFVs, so the game shows that icon to indicate you're benefiting from the vehicle’s protection/support aura.
