Suggestion: Input-Based Matchmaking as an in-game option
Hey everyone,
This is something I’ve mentioned before in other sections of the forums (including back when the Battlefield 6 beta section was still up), but I’d like to bring it up again here because I think it’s really important and didn't see a dedicated post until now: adding IBMM as an optional setting in BF6.
Right now, there are a lot of discussions around crossplay and how it impacts balance between players on different platforms, but in my opinion the main concern isn’t about Console vs. PC (that I personally don't have a problem at all) instead it’s about Controller vs Mouse & Keyboard.
Players often feel that the two input methods offer very different experiences, and that's basically true for the reasons that we all know; and now that consoles also support M&K with this game, the gap between input methods is more relevant than ever.
That’s exactly why an Input-Based Matchmaking option could make a difference: it would allow players to decide for themselves how they want their matches to be balanced, based on input method rather than platform.
By implementing IBMM as a separate toggle (similar to the already existing crossplay option), players could choose:
- Whether to enable or disable crossplay.
- Whether to enable or disable IBMM.
In this way, everyone has the freedom to decide what works best for them.
- Those who want the largest possible player pool can leave IBMM off.
- Those who care about input parity can turn it on.
- And since this would be optional, no one is forced into a system they don’t enjoy.
It feels like the best compromise to satisfy everyone in the community and I believe it could really improve the overall experience for all types of players.
I’d like to hear what the rest of the community thinks about this idea and, if enough players agree, maybe DICE will consider adding it sooner rather than later — but hopefully soon™
