This. This post right here successfully puts into words the thoughts and feelings on BF6 that I've been struggling to put together properly. The map design coupled with the wildly fast spawn times is starting to choke away the fun. Even on the "good" maps. The whole "this battlefield feels like COD" complaint happens just about every time a new battlefield game comes out and has always had little to no truth to it. However, BF6 does genuinely feel more like a COD title than any Battlefield game I've played before. Obviously they are still very different games but the comparison is closer than ever right now. This comparison lies not in the gunplay or the movement but the map design. As you said there's no time to breath, much less think. I've seen people say you have to make the choice to slow the gameplay down yourself. Sure, one could do that. But here's the problem. In previous titles you didn't have to force that thought. It was the default. If you tried to run 'n gun and play it like COD you'd usually get dumpstered. Now it's the opposite because everyone is everywhere at all times. There are no clear lines of battle or fronts anymore, none that last long enough to establish anything meaningful anyway. Breakthrough sort of forces this to happen but it just devolves into spawn->sprint->die on repeat until you lose or get lucky enough that your spawn->sprint->die wave happens at just the right time. Increasing the spawn timer or allowing for a wider playing field would probably aid in fixing this. Rush which used to be my go to mode, feels much the same but worse. Rush in BF6 is an awful experience. Not because of one single thing, but because of the combined problems of map design, spawn timer, and the placement of the m-com stations. Overall If I had to describe the maps in one word it'd be claustrophobic. They're too limited. Too squeezed in tight. Too much clutter for vehicles to navigate. And they all play more or less the same. I find myself getting tired of the game fast b/c, though visually very different, the maps all feel the same. Also of note, I do feel the gun balance is a bit off. Specifically between ARs and SMGs. ARs feel like the weapon bloom is tuned a little too high. SMGs feel like they have too much range. Maybe it's all a ME problem. Maybe I just haven't quite got the feel of the ARs yet. Maybe I'm just old now lol. Maybe I do need to try to slow the game down a bit myself. Maybe. Idk. I still can't get past the fact that i never had to TRY to slow the game down before, that was just how it organically played out. Heck maybe I'll completely change my mind in the future. Time will tell I suppose.
