Why I (STILL) love playing BFV and absolutely hate playing BF6

 

BF6 is horrific to play, it simply got MW2019 treatment, overdesigned, overengineered maps, with insane CLUTTER, poor character model visibility, insanely low TTK, you can't move in this game, it's just who sees who first,

This is all by design as usual.  Playing BFV Devastation for example, as a 'good' BFV player, it's a night and day experience from BF6, Devastation is still a very pourus map with many windows doors and camping spots, however, it's (MUCH more) manageable because it's to a FAR FAR FAR lesser extent than BF6 maps, and with the TTK being sensible in BFV, and guns requiring at least SOME skill to use, it's just a very solid gameplay experience, I have hundred upon hundreds of hours in BFV and yet I DESPISE BF6.

Despised the maps in BF 2042 also, but BF6 has taken everything to a whole new level of misery - just randomness and wide open spaces viewable from 500000 lines of sight and near insta-death when moving ANYWHERE. 

The BANDAID is to up the TTK SIGNIFICANTLY, hugely up the recoil and bullet spread, lower bullet velocity, and improve character model visibility significantly.

This is just a dream I imagine and sadly this is casual shooters now, MW2019 and the principle behind it's design choices have infected and destroyed the casual FPS experience I loved so much in games like BFV.

Map designs I can enjoy in BFV

Devastation, Metro, Provence, Rotterdam, Marita - I don't play any others.  Top pick for me is Devastation due to tremendous flow and solid balance all around. 

EDIT: Conquest, I should mention this is all based of standard Conquest, I've always played Conquest since BF3 - I could try the other game modes in BF6 to see if they alleviate some of my gripes but I really do not feel like being pushed into other game modes simply because Conquest has become unplayable for me in BF6, purely due to the design choices vs BFV.

  • The major elephant in the room in my opinion is the super fast full health regen. It affects nearly every aspect from map design to TTK. It means you have to have fast TTK or else the enemy player can just run and get back to 100 health within seconds and also the same with map design - you can't just gradually whittle players health to zero in buildings or wherever as they constantly can reheal so you need the crazy multi points of attack in every flag/ building to flush people out.

    While it does not solve ANY of the problems you mention, I do want to say you should give Escalation a try. It’s a great variation on Conquest, and leads to tenser end games in more matches. Plus you get to rediscover some maps as some objs are in different spots or redrawn to promote play in a different area. 

    For me Escalation is a highlight of this iteration of BF. I like to play all-out warfare, which switches between Conquest and Escalation from match to match.
