Why is the open beta so short?

I stopped keeping track of Battlefield after the dumpster fire of 2042. So I have not been in the loop much. So I want to know why the open beta is so short. EA and DICE need to get this right. We have been without a proper Battlefield since BF4. The release date should be pushed back 3 months so the wider community can test and help shape what battlefield will be. Yes, I know about Labs, I tried to get in it but I was unsuccessful. And only having a small amount of players from the community in labs is nice to help DICE not screw up again but the wider Battlefield community should also weigh in too. More data to look and draw conclusions from and more feedback.

These 2 weekends are no where near enough time to make sure this is not another dumpster fire. This is just a demo to build hype.

  • That is what the Open Betas have been for some time now... basically a larger scale / real world stress test.  The game is pretty much "complete" with two months to go...

To be clear, I agree with you.  I do think October 10 is too soon having playtested the game myself.  There are too many features not mentioned (which either means they don't have it or it's not ready) and/or too many things not tested enough... vehicles in particular come to mind!  I will at the very least say this game looks and feels much better than 2042 did at this time... We will all see soon enough!

    See you on the Battlefield!

Totally hear you, and I think a lot of us are on the same page here. After how 2042 launched, trust needs to be earned back, not just assumed — and one short open beta over two weekends doesn’t give much confidence that all the core issues will be addressed in time for launch.

You’re right — Labs is a good idea in theory, but it’s very limited in scope. Having a small closed test group is great for early tuning, but nothing compares to mass feedback from the broader Battlefield community, especially for a game that’s supposed to deliver large-scale, sandbox warfare.

The fact is, Battlefield hasn’t felt truly "right" since BF4 for many of us. That’s over a decade ago. If DICE wants to reclaim that Battlefield identity and get it right this time, they need to be open to delaying the release. A short beta window just feels more like a marketing demo than a proper stress test or feedback phase.

I’d much rather see them push launch back a few months and keep iterating based on open beta feedback than rush it and risk another messy release. At this point, we all want Battlefield to succeed — but it has to feel and play like Battlefield, not another generic shooter trying to ride trends.

Appreciate you raising this — hopefully the devs are listening.

  • What a Beta is: It's a stress test and to test compatibility and stability on a wide range of configurations. It also helps to find any bugs or issues that may have been overlooked during internal testing.

What a Beta isn't: A preview of the game to see if you like it. An opportunity to play the game early. An opportunity to give feedback on game decisions that have been made a long time ago and in no way can be reverted or changed so close to release.

As much as I'd like the beta to last until release...that's just not realistic and not what the Beta is intended for.
