Battlefield 6 Netcode, Lag Compensation, and Unfair Gunfights

I’m writing to provide feedback on Battlefield 6’s netcode and hit registration, which currently make gunfights feel inconsistent and unfair, especially for players with strong connections.

I play on a wired fiber gigabit connection with consistently sub-20 ms ping, yet in most matches I experience frequent deaths behind cover, delayed damage, and what feels like “super bullets,” where multiple shots are applied in a single frame. At the same time, it often takes an unusually high number of hits for me to secure a kill, even in situations where I clearly shoot first.

This strongly suggests that lag compensation and server reconciliation are favoring higher-latency players. While I understand the need to accommodate a wide range of connections, the current implementation appears to punish low-latency, stable players by prioritizing historical rewinds over the server’s current state. The result is gunfights that feel server-decided rather than skill-decided.

I have no issue losing when I’m outplayed or outgunned. That’s part of any multiplayer game. The frustration comes from situations that are completely outside the player’s control and feel inconsistent from fight to fight. When outcomes no longer feel deterministic, it discourages continued play, regardless of connection quality or experience level.

I believe this could be improved by limiting lag compensation rewinds, increasing server update consistency in infantry engagements, and better grouping players by latency bands. Battlefield’s scale is impressive, but gunfights must feel fair and responsive for players to stay invested.

I want to enjoy Battlefield 6 and continue playing, but until these issues are addressed, it’s difficult to stay engaged. I hope the team will prioritize netcode improvements so that gunfights feel consistent and skill-based for everyone.

    Rank 330. Here's my experience:

I'm on a gig cable system. My ping (Lat) to game servers is usually 65. Sometimes 55. I've watch things very closely for a couple of weeks. The game's timing between high to low ping players is so obvious, I can tell you the connection speed of the other player by how I was killed.  If I get hit indication on me and able to take cover (or return fire), he has a comparable connection. If I instantly die (BAM dead), he has a 30, or faster, connection. My shots mostly don't register on them.  It takes me firing .5 seconds some times to start getting hits.  It has gotten worse and worse. It seems the timing offset is .5 sec or more.  REDSEC Duos or Quads are unplayable now.   I've had too many encounters to count where I'm firing at another player and my gun stops firing. Then I'm down.   NOT just knocked down, but completely WIPED.  What I'm seeing is that far behind what's going on.  It's VERY obvious when the other player is coming around a corner (I can hear them coming and I have the drop on them) BUT he's firing at me (AND HITTING ME) before I can even see him.

I really like REDSEC, but, as I said, for me it's unplayable now. My experience tonight was the WORST yet. EX: I'm hammering a guy with a machine gun and he instantly drops me with a pistol!! If I got a kill, it's because I emptied a machine on the other player.   I'll probably pull back and rarely play anymore. This unfair timely BS is why I stopped playing Battlefield a few years ago. I was hoping the new version would be better. Not only is it not better, it's worse.

  • Its so bad on the ps5 pro. I was hoping this game to succeed bit its actually one of the worse bf I have ever played. Graphics and sounds are excellent but its just too complicated and too much stupid rules like bloom etc sigh

its allways so that when they let pooranistan highpingers in lobbies netcode / game engine they bought from temu is totally mixed.

Highpingers kill enemies before even coming visible behind corners. Also gaming experience varies during the day; hit regs can be decent in the morning - if there are no highpingers in the game.

What a nightmare for a project ! Its supposed to be global industry!

Playing this morning, it's obvious nothing has changed.

Ex: Hammering a guy in the back with LMG and he turns and instantly drops me.  My LAT 55, his 25.

It sucks, but I'll have to search for a different shooter game to play.  For me, IT'S NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO WIN A GUN FIGHT WITH A FAST CONNECTION PLAYER. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE.

At first, Redsec Duos and Quads were REALLY BAD.     Now?  All modes are REALLY BAD. I'm instantly dropped by fast connection players (40 ping or less), I have to almost empty the gun to kill (even a bot), I'm dying well after I'm behind cover (concrete walls), etc...   It's horrendous.

As the original post says, I'm not very engaged or invested anymore. Every direct engagement in a gunfight seems very unfair and precalculated.  In Redsec, multiple times over the last 3 days I've had my gun just STOP FIRING and then, a second later, I'm shown dead (not down, but completely wiped). That's a full second lagged, delayed, behind, .... whatever the hell you want to call it.  Squad mates have witnessed this while spectating me after they're down and are like "WTF!?" .  My only reply is:  "Welcome to my world in BF6".

I wanted to buy some neat stuff, but, for this reason, I'm not spending anything else.
