I've had the exact same issue since BF2042. Why they can't actually explain how BF needs to be setup (i.e. Firewall, PortForwarding Y/N?) and just leave it up to us to figure out, is very frustrating.
I've notice, when I have the nextwork bar open, that the "Lat Var" can go to yellow sometimes and say, I think, 5-8% or something. Of course, you look up "lat var" and there is nothing to explain it.
BabyFarqs I know what all the network graph abbreviations mean.
Lat Var means latency variation. This means your ping time is fluctuating up and down. For example the ping goes from 10ms, then jumps up to 20ms, then goes back down to 10ms.
Lat Var can also mean the network packets are arriving at the destination out-of-order. For example, packet #2 is arriving at the destination before packet #1.
A number of things can cause Lat Var. Do you see any of these other network symbols?

thanks.
I get mostly the yellow Latency Variation symbol. It basically never hits 10ms. It just randomly glitches out after awhile and times out. My internet is generally amazing and I have zero issues with anything else.
It would be nice if there was actually an official way to trouble-shoot, but the "help" is not remotely helpful, since it doesn't solve the issue.- OskooI_0079 days agoLegend
BabyFarqs 10ms isn't much latency variation. That's a very minor amount. For example, your ping fluctuating from 20ms to 30ms is a 10ms latency variation.
(30ms - 20ms = 10ms)
The only thing we can do on our end is to run a traceroute to the game servers. Looking at ping time fluctuations on each hop.
If all the hops look good then the latency variation is most likely occuring inside the game server data center network.
