EA javelin anticheat crashes computer (BSOD)
Repeated BSOD – IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA) in eaanticheat.sys – Failure Hash d544cf09-4735-e698-77c3-5df5924e5448
Hello,
I am experiencing a persistent and reproducible Windows BSOD while playing Battlefield 6. I have spent a considerable amount of time troubleshooting this and the crashes continue to point to EA Javelin AntiCheat (eaanticheat.sys).
Battlefield 6 previously worked perfectly on this PC. I have played approximately 400 hours since release without this issue. The BSODs only started occurring during the last few weeks.
Other demanding games and stress tests are stable.
Crash behaviour
The crash normally occurs while actively playing Battlefield 6.
Originally it happened very frequently, often after approximately 10 minutes of gameplay. During troubleshooting I have also managed sessions of approximately 30–60 minutes before the same BSOD occurs (most likely luck).
One observation that may or may not be relevant: the crash very often seems to happen at exactly the moment I am about to get a kill, particularly when flying aircraft. However, this is not completely consistent; it has also crashed at seemingly random moments.
The computer immediately BSODs rather than Battlefield simply crashing to desktop.
WinDbg crash signature
Multiple Windows minidumps repeatedly identify the same component and essentially the same crash signature:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a) BUGCHECK_CODE: a BUGCHECK_P1: 7fffffff0000 BUGCHECK_P2: ff PROCESS_NAME: bf6.exe SYMBOL_NAME: eaanticheat+4a8ebd3 MODULE_NAME: eaanticheat IMAGE_NAME: eaanticheat.sys FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: AV_eaanticheat!unknown_function FAILURE_ID_HASH: {d544cf09-4735-e698-77c3-5df5924e5448}
The stack in the latest dump includes:
nt!KiGeneralProtectionFault eaanticheat+0x4a8ebd3
followed by exception handling/unwinding through:
nt!RtlpxVirtualUnwind+0xb6
The same eaanticheat+0x4a8ebd3 offset and the same Failure ID Hash have appeared repeatedly across the crashes.
The currently installed eaanticheat.sys reports:
Timestamp: Fri Aug 22 20:42:31 2026 ImageSize: 050C1000
The EA AntiCheat crashdump directory:
C:\ProgramData\eaanticheat\Crashdumps
is currently empty, despite the Windows BSOD minidumps being generated normally.
System
- OS: Windows 11 25H2
- OS Build: 26200.9168
- CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
- RAM: 32 GB DDR5
- Motherboard: MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI
- Game platform: Steam
- NVIDIA driver: 610.88
- BIOS has been updated recently.
Troubleshooting already performed
I have already performed extensive troubleshooting, including:
- Updated motherboard BIOS.
- Enabled Intel Default Settings.
- Changed CPU power limits from 288 W / 288 W to 125 W / 181 W.
- Tested with XMP disabled.
- Reseated the RAM modules.
- Stresstested the CPU with OCCT for 60 minutes with 0 errors and no BSOD.
- Performed an OCCT memory test without detected errors during the test performed.
- Other CPU/GPU/RAM-intensive games are stable.
- Temporarily limited P-core frequency to 4.9 GHz – BF6 still BSODed.
- Temporarily disabled all E-cores – BF6 still BSODed.
- Performed a Windows clean boot – BF6 still BSODed.
- Clean-installed NVIDIA driver 610.88 – BF6 still BSODed.
- Updated Intel chipset drivers.
- Updated Intel Management Engine/MEI driver.
- Temporarily disabled Windows Memory Integrity/HVCI – BF6 still BSODed.
- Secure Boot and TPM were not disabled.
- Completely uninstalled and reinstalled EA Javelin AntiCheat using Uninstall All.
- Rebooted and reinstalled Battlefield 6 AntiCheat.
- Reinstalled Battlefield 6
- Subsequently ran Repair on EA AntiCheat.
- Subsequently ran the Javelin/AntiCheat Update as administrator.
- None of these AntiCheat reinstall/repair/update procedures resolved the issue.
- Completely removed other Anti-Cheat on computer.
- Removed other kernel level software/drivers for testing.
- The BSOD continued after removing these third-party kernel drivers.
In one earlier dump, NVIDIA's nvlddmkm.sys appeared farther down the stack, but after a clean NVIDIA driver installation later crashes continued with eaanticheat.sys and the same Failure ID Hash without NVIDIA being relevant in the same way.
Why I suspect Javelin AntiCheat
The PC was stable in Battlefield 6 from launch and approximately 400 hours until last month before this started.
The system is stable in other demanding games and during standalone CPU/RAM stress testing.
Most importantly, multiple BF6 crashes repeatedly produce:
bf6.exe eaanticheat.sys eaanticheat+0x4a8ebd3 AV_eaanticheat!unknown_function {d544cf09-4735-e698-77c3-5df5924e5448}
The crash therefore appears highly reproducible rather than producing random bugchecks/modules normally associated with general hardware instability.
I have also found reports from other Battlefield 6 players showing the same AV_eaanticheat!unknown_function classification and the same Failure ID Hash.
Request
Could this please be escalated to the Battlefield/Javelin AntiCheat engineering team?
I would particularly like to know:
- Whether failure hash {d544cf09-4735-e698-77c3-5df5924e5448} is a known Javelin issue.
- Whether eaanticheat+0x4a8ebd3 corresponds to a known crash in the current AntiCheat build.
- Whether there is a newer Javelin build, hotfix or known workaround available.
- Whether EA needs a full kernel dump rather than a Windows minidump to diagnose this further.
- Whether there are additional Javelin diagnostic logs I can collect before reproducing the crash again.
I can provide the original .dmp files, DxDiag, MSInfo32 information and full WinDbg !analyze -v output if required.
Thank you.
