Massive FPS-Drops and GPU idling on Ryzen 9 + RX 7900 XTX after 10–15 minutes

System specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX (Adrenalin 25.10.1 Battlefield 6 Preview Driver)
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
OS: Windows 11 22H2

Issue:
During Multiplayer sessions, GPU usage suddenly drops from around 98 % to 8–10 %, and FPS fall from ~180 FPS to 20–30 FPS after about 10–15 minutes of gameplay.
After several seconds, performance recovers, and then the issue repeats.

In Singleplayer, the game runs perfectly stable without any drops.

Troubleshooting already attempted:
– Tested DX11 and DX12 modes
– Disabled FSR 3 / Frame Generation
– Reset shader cache
– Lowered texture and effect quality (Ultra → High)
– Tried launch parameters: -dx12 -noasync -high

Observation / possible cause:
It seems related to a threading or VRAM/FSR leak in the Frostbite Next engine on high-core-count AMD CPUs (Ryzen 9 5950X and similar) combined with Radeon RX 7000 GPUs.

I don't know what to do anymore.

  • I solved the problem.
    The solution was:
To disable SMT in the BIOS in order to halve my cores—in other words, to use only the 16 physical cores out of 32 logical cores.

    Nevertheless, EA should fix this!

BrokeAlbino AMD Ryzen 9 5950X has two CCD dies. You'll probably get better performance by disabling all the CPU cores on one of the CCD dies and turning SMT back on.

This way BF6 is running on one CCD die instead of two. Which will avoid the CCD Interconnect latency penalty.

Thanks a lot, bro! Disabling SMT completely solved the same issue on my Ryzen 9 5950X. I really hope EA fixes this soon so the game works properly on all CPUs without these BIOS tweaks.

Just for reference, I know this does not help you, i have a

    • Gigabyte Aorus Master x570s
    • AMD R9 5950x
    • 128 GB RAM
    • Windows 11 24H2
    • 7900XTX with the 25.9.1 driver
    • up2date BIOS
    • SMT enabled, no cores disabled

i havent had the problems you describe.

So you might attach more info on your Hardware for EA to be able to fix.

I also got 2 survey emails from ea, they were asking specificly if problems exist and on which hardware.
