Unexpected reset of progress :(

Good afternoon. 
I have been playing the game for over 16 hours since it started. 
When I exited the game and later re-entered it, I noticed that all my progress had been reset. 
My level had dropped to 1, and all my unlocked weapons had disappeared. The challenges had also been reset. 
Interestingly, the bonuses from the maximum edition were still intact. I purchased the game on Steam and am playing through it. Cloud saving is enabled.
Can anyone suggest what might be causing this issue?
Could it be related to the STEAM account being linked to the EA account.
