I've been having the same issues. BF2042 shows as wanting to download in the EA app (already installed via Origin) then fails. I have noticed that the EA app is showing my old purchase of the Ultimate edition which I refunded at launch. Since then, I bought the standard version, it looks like the EA app is trying to download the Ultimate Edition again but fails.
I've had to go back to Origin for everything to work again.
I've been using Origin again since I could never get BF2042 to download and install on the EA App until yesterday when Origin made me switch to the EA App. I hoped they had the bugs worked out but of course not, still the same issue I was having two months ago. BF2042 STILL won't download..... Does anyone have an actual phone number for EA so I can try to call and get an actual solution to the problem since nobody on here seems to have any answers......

In my case, I bought the Ultimate Edition before launch, refunded it and bought the Gold Edition. Ever since being forced to use EA App on Wednesday (2022 Dec 7) I haven't been able to download Battlefield 2042. I've done everything the EA Help pages say and still no luck. Also, I am able to download any other game I've tried using the EA App (e.g. Apex Legends, Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4). Only Battlefield 2042 won't download.
I own the Gold Edition but the EA App wrongfully shows the Ultimate Edition in my game library (see attached picture). So I have to assume that the EA App is trying to download the Ultimate Edition but then fails because it can't verify the purchase. This seems like a very specific bug in EA's systems and a huge oversight. This is the only explanation because, as I said, I can download any other game in my library just fine.
Even more disconcerting, it appears the Gold Edition isn't even available for purchase in the EA store anymore. It only shows Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition. So I'm not exactly sure where that leaves me.
