So, what actually worked for me was to unplug my router for around 10 minutes, until my IP address changed. Someone pointed it on reddit and said : " Seems to me EA is adding or switching servers constantly and some ip's or hostnames they are using are being flagged as malicious/spam, in my case on my mesh system" - https://www.reddit.com/r/origin/comments/15iiuep/damn_error_code_10005_is_back_ea_desktop_app/

I know this is an old post but I just ran into this issue and wanted to come back to just let anybody else with this issue know what worked for me. I had downloaded the app installer, ran the repair, didn't work. Deleted temporary files, didn't work. Restarted PC, didn't work.
What DID work was simply uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. That was it. Problem solved. I hope this helps the next person that inevitably has this issue and has to dig through posts that are years old to find a solution.

Yep, this is exactly what worked for me. After being a loyal sims fan since the very beginning, I am starting to think I am DONE with it at this point! I have never had so many problems until recently, and I just want to turn my computer on and play SIMS!! I don't want to HAVE TO BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET just to launch the d**n game! :(
But, thank you heaterdc8, uninstalling it, and reinstalling it (after waiting 30 mins and 3 trys later for the app authentication in order to sign in).... it appears to have worked. EA is loaded, now let's see how the game itself runs... LOL
