EA App fails to connect and will not show any offline messages

Just as the title says. It takes 2 or 3 times to get connected to the app. Once it does, if anyone has left me a offline message, I cannot read it. I can see my side of the conversation, but their side is blank.

I did clear the cache, got a fresh download of the app and nothing helped.
