ea app won't udpdate on mac

Hi,

My EA app won't update on my macbook.

It says: 
The EA app needs to restart

A mandatory update is required to stay online. Restart the EA app and apply the update.

No matter how many times i try to restart, it won't update, so i can restart, open it up, and restart again.

How do I solve this without unstalling the app, as i would lose all my progress in Sims.
