EA Desktop infinite start loop

Summarize your bug EA App/Desktop Doesn't Start.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know cause installer doesn't start.
What happens when the bug occurs? EA Desktop starts. Reports unrecoverable error and prompts to restart. Restart reports exactly the same. Rinse and repeat.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see the EA Desktop to start so I can access my games.

App will not launch, says there was an unresolvable error and to restart the app. App restart causes the error again. This repeats forever.

    Certainly am.

    Doesn't seem to make a difference whether it's a clean install or an upgrade from Origin (after reinstalling that).

    Doesn't matter where I install to (defaults or a custom location).

    Doesn't matter whether firewalls & antivirus are up or down.

    Occasionally it will merely lock on the 'contacting server' screen.

    Restart or explicit stop and start of the back-end service also makes no difference.

    Also makes no difference if I try running the repair or the upgrade/patch package from the install directory.

  • Notice how the mods here aren't offering any help? They'll ask you twice if you're having trouble, then ignore you in the hopes that you go away.

    Seems to have been that way for quite a while these days.

    I know it's something related explicitly to the one box it's running on ; worked perfectly fine on another one.

    But must be more than just code ; copied the install (in the same dir) from the working box to the non-working one. Surprise, surprise, it doesn't work...

    @ikerris There are some server issues happening right now so the below steps may not work but we would like for you to give it a try and see if they help. I would first uninstall the EA App so the cleanup below can get rid of everything. Close as many programs running as you can.

    For Windows

    • Press the Windows key + R, go into the file explorer
    • Type in %temp%, and hit Enter
    •  Delete everything it allows you to delete
    • Reboot your PC

    Registry clean-up

    1. One thing I would like to try is to install CCleaner (it's free) from here
    2. Run the registry cleaner first
    3. Check fix all
    4. Back up no
    5. Rinse and repeat until there are no files left.

    Did try that. Complete uninstall, remove, clean up , reinstall. Cleaned up using Revo.

    Same deal. Mostly hangs on 'Connecting to EA' after the initial crash and restart.

    Notably however, it's working on another box with no issues.

    Copied all the install code across thinking it may have been missing configs/DLL's/install issues but made no difference whatsoever.
