Games not launching on EA App

Product: The EA app
Platform:PC
Error Report ID (learn how to create an Error Report ID in the sticky post) 98569393-3936-4585-a336-002691d08ac3
Which client functionality are you experiencing this bug with? Launch Game
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 10.02.23
Summarize your bug Dragon Age : Inquisition launches but then almost immediately closes
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Launch DA : I
What happens when the bug occurs? The game opens, but before it loads the main menu, it closes and I am brought back to the EA App
What do you expect to see? The game no longer automatically closing

I, like many others, am here because I was forced to switch to the EA app, but upon doing so haven't been able to play games in my library.

I had played DA : I the night before Origin began prompting me to switch, so I know that there's no issue with the game and that the fault lies in the app that I was - again - forced to switch to.

I don't receive an error dialogue when this happens, the game opens as it should, but before anything has time to load it closes and I'm greeted by the EA app again as if nothing has happened. To my delight, I arrive here to see that numerous people are also unable to play anything in their library and that they've received no official response. Peachy! I then started looking for solutions here, but unfortunately none of them have worked for me — I am genuinely glad that some people have been able to play their games again, though that's no thanks to anyone at EA.

Things I've tried:

  • The Omnipresent "turn it off and on again"
  • Clearing cache in the app
  • Disabling my antivirus program (Avast)
  • Granting the EA app and DA : I permission in my antivirus
  • Launching in online and offline mode
  • Running as administrator

Nothing has produced results.

I was curious to see if this issue was extending to all my games or just the one, so I also tried to start up Dragon Age II and had the same problem. Sims 4 on the other hand started up without incident. This leads me to wonder if it has something to do with the cloud saves. I have existing cloud saves for both DA : I and DA2, but not for Sims 4. I had seen someone mention cloud saves causing them problems, but what helped them was playing in offline mode, which hasn't done anything for me.

I'm not really expecting a working solution to come from posting this - though if anyone has suggestions, please feel free to tell me - I just want EA to know they can't ignore this. Maybe if enough people complain, they'll give us an official public response. 🤞

  • Wow, so sorry, I didn't see either of your replies until just now! Thank you both for responding.

I was thankfully able to piece together a solution that worked for me after reading through threads here, and wanted to post what worked in case someone finds this thread later while looking for help.

    • Uninstalled EA App and reinstalled it in the same directory as my games using these steps. Uninstalling DAI likely would have worked the same, but would've taken a lot longer to reinstall than the EA app.
    • Added DAI as an exception in my Antivirus Software.

I saw people have success with both of these options, but neither one of them worked alone for me. Both, however, seemed to do the trick! I've been able to play the last three nights with no hiccups or crashes.

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

  • @Coraychi These "Tech Support" people won't be able to help you. The EA app is fundamentally flawed. Uninstall the EA app, go to Techspot and download the origin installer. Worked for me, I wasn't able to launch BF2024 due to the app crashing. Shame on EA really.

I was hoping this one would work but when you install the Origin app it wont let you click on anything and just tells you to install EA App.

@TTV--Spamshot_ Yes, unfortunately I was forced to switch over to the EA App. The solution listed is what I did after switching to get my games to work, prior to that they just wouldn't launch. :/ The EA App is a mess at the moment, but they seem adamant to shift us over to it, so the best thing to do is figure it out sooner than later so that you can get back to playing your games. If you end up having trouble with the switch though, people here have been very helpful!
