"Permissions error" Sims 4 won't install

The Sims 4 won't install on my laptop anymore due to a "Permissions error". Normally, I'd install the game on an external drive since my laptop doesn't have enough space. I've done this before and the game would always work, but it seemed to start when I tried installing "For Rent" and it would always stop at 50% with a pop up saying there was trouble installing. So I left it and when I came back a few weeks later the game was asking for an update, so I clicked the update icon and then I got this pop up saying that it needs permission and to "check your security permissions", or along those lines.

I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it hoping that would fix the issue but now it won't install at all and keeps asking for permissions.

I tried opening the EA app in administration mode but that didn't seem to work and had a look at my external drive properties to see if anything had changed, but it looks the same to me.

I have all the packs for the game, and mods have been removed. It has the same issue with or without them.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

  • This error is usually given when the folder in which the game is being created does not have the necessary permissions required by EA. You can either check if the game is actually being created in a system folder, or you can go to any chosen folder, right click, properties, security, edit, add, advanced, find now, "everyone", " ok", "ok", check "full access" in checkboxes, and apply.

@igerqu1 permission errors are often caused by an antivirus program or by having the game installed on a drive that the EA app can't access for some reason.

"I first stopped downloading the repair, then I right click on the ea icon on my desk top and clicked run as administrator, then did the Sam on the sims 4 icon. I then restarted my laptop. I went back on the ea app and repaired the game no problem! I hope this helps."

Thank you, this worked for me!

  • Hello! I also had this problem on my laptop. My AVG blocked the app... I had to manually go in and unblock the app and allow. I hope it isn't a temporary fix but it works for now. The Sims! AMIright????
