Re: EA app Fails to Remember "Keep me signed in" Option

SOLUTION FOR EA DESKTOP LOGGING USERS OUT UPON CLOSING THE APP

This is a follow up on the erroneously closed long running topic that has been here for years where various community managers and customer support agents at EA and other companies completely failed to even adress the issue or solve it.

Bug: EA Desktop upon closing logs the user out forcing them to re enter their credentials over and over. (Win 10/11)

The solution is extremely simple

  1. Open add or remove programs.
  2. Locate and uninstall the EA Desktop app.
  3. In the Unistaller that opens there is a option to REPAIR.

After using this function the app resumes normal use and stays logged in.

I've tested this on 2 different computers that had the bug with a 100% success rate.

    @ManbreakfastableHoly cow, it worked!!!

What's even better it also somehow fixed the issue where the app was treated like a game so it was using NVIDIA overlay including the mic at all times the app is open or/and in the background!!!

    LEGEND!

    EDIT:

I fired up the app the next day and it was logged out again, lol. So, no, unfortunately it didn't fix it for me.

Your "fix" won't work on the new EA app that replaced Origin since the EA app does not give an option to "repair" the installation. Just modify which is greyed out and uninstall. Nothing else. I never had this problem on Origin. But my wife and I both started having this problem the day the EA app was installed (without our permission) on our PCs by EA. As bad as Origin was, it was better than this POS.

@DuckDodgers58I understand that you are frustrated but please follow my instructions before posting.

You did not complete step 2. Uninstall.

The repair function is in the uninstaller, not add or remove programs itself. Try again and let me know if it worked.

For the record I liked origin too, it had some features that Desktop hasnt added back in like opening recent games from the minimised hidden icon in the task bar. It also has caused mass deauthentifcation of purchased games that cant be run because their programs require the discontinued origin or origin thin client to get through authentification, or something inane like that.

There are plenty of games affected. I cant play Anthem anymore! Some people might think thats funny but Im pissed. I bought that on release full price.

If that issue isn't priority one to fix at EA right now they're bonkers. Undermines the entire idea of being a publisher/distributor when your library is expiring like bad fruit due to poor housing conditions.

This did not work for me, unfortunately.

The app is going to need to be updated to get a fix.

This is just as annoying as the Downloads bug from a few months ago.  A fix for that eventually came, after many weeks of waiting.

I expect a similar situation here.

Sorry to hear it XNINE. You're absolutly right.

While its great to dig up workarounds and solve these problems in unorthodox or forgotten ways, the problem being fixed internally is the only time when virtually all of the users will have a positive experience. Thanks for testing this fix out.

If it reverts to the bugged state dont be afraid to try again. Thats what my girlfriend had to do on her rig, just once so far.

Checking in to say that yesterday's latest EA update in fact did not fix this problem.  I still have to log in every time I open the app.

I also have noticed that the app does not remember my Application settings - I frequently have to turn off the In Game Overlay, as the app will simply flip it back on for no reason.  Same with the "share user data" toggle.

Over a month now, still no solution.  Again, this would not be a problem if this app had a "Thin" version like Origin did, or, God Forbid, I could just launch my games with Steam like any reasonable game lets you.  Not the case.

It's getting aggravating.  There is a less than zero chance I would ever buy a game exclusively through this launcher, and it's already enough of a pain that it launches simultaneously with my Steam-owned EA games.

Sounds like a tragic case of this issue XNINE. There my be multiple variations of this bug if you experience that. Our EA Deskop log out issue upon testing happens on a computer restart or off scenario. Not when the process is closed on the desktop. I'd like to hear from other users that have had it as frequently as XNINE if possible.

After 30 days I have my own status update on the uninstaller repair workaround/fix.

There is a big difference in success on windows 10 vs windows 11.

Windows 11 users so far including in my in house testing have had limited success.

The fix only lasts around a day or two days of normal use at best (turning the computer off when we leave the house or at the end of our day.) We tried forcing the issue by restarting the computer in succession, turning the computer off for periods of time and opening and closing the app. It seemed stable, but after that loose 1-2 day period the problem would return. Sometimes sooner.

For reference this was with two unique EA accounts on two different computers that are used on a regular basis.

On windows 10 the fix seems to last longer but on week 3 it came back on that system intermittently. I would log back in and it would hold. Then it would log out days later. Finally at week 4 the program returned to logging out on every restart or power off. I will be applying the uninstaller repair fix again to see if it remedies the issue again.

EDIT 2: plot twists for my windows 10 testing. The problem is infrequent & intermittent. I have not run the uninstall/repair but after logging back in it seems to hold through restarts. It held through a windows update and full power down for the night. I havent been having issues in the days since.

    This part is for EA.

Regardless of the trigger for this bug, because the repair function in the installer can reliably affect the problem in many user cases the code or issue may be better understood by looking at the Uninstall-repair function.

Whatever that is doing is directly touching this issue. Through some corporate miracle if you could consult who wrote that program function they should know what it is "repairing" and thus what general area of the code the bug may be in.

At the very least put a programmer on it to take a look around.

Is that a long shot? Maybe. But its worth checking.

@Manbreakfastable (NEW WORKAROUND FOR WINDOWS 11 USERS)

EA games purchased through Steam were able to auto log in as intended.

In contrast launching the sims 4 through a desktop icon natively with EA Desktop was unable to auto log in.

Steam purchased games and whatever programming EA has attached to them may circumvent this issue entirely.

Theres some irony in this fix for sure.

Not for me.  My game is purchased through Steam.

Upon hitting "Play" in Steam, the EA App opens, and demands a login.

Unfortunately this does not work either. All suggestions get a few days reprieve from entering credentials, before the App chooses to forget what you have asked it to remember. I hope EA is not investing in AI.

@DeltaCorvi You got that right! It is ridiculous that a company like @EA can't fix its own app and make it work as intended. Whenever I start my PC and the app opens, it wants my login info. Yes, I click remember, but it does not. I have looked back through the forums, and this problem has existed for years! I guess @EA doesn't want our money and to make their paying customers happy!

Your assumption that I did not do option 2 is incorrect. I have removed and reinstalled this "app" multiple times. There has NEVER been a "repair" option. EVER. I'm not a child. Don't assume I can't follow instructions. I have been telling computers what to do for over 40 years. I KNOW how to follow instructions as well as follow them. I even removed and reinstalled it twice to be sure no repair option was given. It wasn't.

I don't know what you're installing. But I seem not to be installing the same program.

I just wish a cash rich company like EA would get their act together and actually FIX bugs when they are reported by a LOT of people. No, it's not preventing people from playing their games. But I can tell you they are losing a LOT of money on lost sales because of their decision to ignore something that aggravates potential customers. But customer satisfaction isn't even taught in business schools anymore like it was when I went to Wharton school back in the 80s. Contrary to what is being taught today. There is not an endless supply of new customers they haven't screwed over yet. But then most professors in business schools today have never had a real job running a real company. Their ideas are completely untested and unworkable.

I understand you're pissed, chief, but there very much is a "Repair" option when you uninstall the EA app through the Control Panel.

Go to "Change or Uninstall Programs", find the EA App by sorting alphabetically, highlight it, click "Uninstall".  The "repair" option will be on the right on the first window you see.

It doesn't matter, anyway, as it doesn't fix the problem.

Thank Christ I finished (the awful) Mass Effect Andromeda a few weeks ago, as I can confirm that this issue is still (!) a problem almost 3 months later.  I no longer am playing an EA Game, but just decided to click on the app itself to install an update.  Zero change.  The credentials do not stick.

Getting into disaster territory here.  Friendly reminder that the old Origin launcher worked just fine, and even had a "thin" component that wouldn't launch the full Origin app whenever an EA game was launched from Steam.  Somehow, this is so much worse.

This issue seems to have gone in version 13.58.0. Are people still getting logged out out unexpectedly?

Not sure if someone mentioned it -

I tried today ( just 5 mins before I wrote this message ) - download a latest version of (new) EA installer app from official website.

When EA app is installed - it will show - launch or repair

I hit repair, it did the repair, downloaded something.

    Let's see if this helped.

  • @D4rxio Update - May 20st 2024 - seem be working, app is not logged out after pc restart or shutdown
