Sims 2 can't add redeem code says invalid

I have the original sims 2 with the disc but don't have a disk drive on my laptop I've tried redeeming the game but it keeps saying invalid code for some reason ,can this possibly be fixed if I still have the serial code and everything? Can I add it ?
