Unravel 2 won't even launch because the EA app keeps crashing my laptop

I bought Unravel 2 on Steam a few weeks back hoping to play local co-op with my son on my Windows 10 laptop (Gigabyte Aero 15 - i7-8750H, 32GB RAM, 1060GTX). I didn't pay attention that it required the EA app when I bought it, and I didn't try it until a couple of days ago.

Long story short, I can't even start the game because the EA app keeps crashing my laptop in the worst possible way, i.e. I need to press the power button to reboot. After reading a few messages of other frustrated users on Reddit I tried modifying all .exe files in the EA folder to run as admin and that got me a bit further into the app, in that I see the window with the home screen, but after a few more seconds it displays a message that it cannot connect to port 3216 (error code EC10701) and it hangs.

To add insult to injury, the installer doesn't even ask if I want this terrible app to start automatically with Windows, which forced me to restart in safe mode and disable the automatic load. WTF EA??? 🤬

    Hi asgoodasiget,

Sorry to hear you're running into these issues.

EC:10701 is a communication error that is most likely caused by something local on your system or network. We have a list of potential troubleshooting steps here: https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/error-codes/.

This is a setting that you can change in the settings of the EA app. You do not have to boot Windows into safe mode to disable this.

Thank you for your reply, but perhaps I was not clear. So let me clarify, once more.

The app crashes my whole laptop. That means I never get the chance to open any settings to change whether it will start automatically with Windows or not. That's why I can only do it by booting in safe mode and disabling the automatic start from the task manager.

I am not sure that it crashes because of EC10701. In any case, an app is not supposed to crash *the whole OS* when it encounters an error, it can report the error and close, but alas... And I tried everything mentioned in that link, but I shouldn't have to disable any VPN adapters especially since I'm not actively using them.

So, is there anywhere I can send the logs for people to check what's going on?
