Hey -- I get why this is frustrating, especially when you’re ready to download a game and hit a wall.

A couple of important clarifications first, because there are some assumptions here that don’t quite line up with how this space works:

    • This is a community forum, not a direct Support channel. Replies here come from players, and community managers, not live support agents.
    • Your post went up over the weekend, when response times are typically slower across all community-run spaces.
    • A slower reply here isn’t a sign that “support isn’t good” -- it’s just not the same system.

That said, let’s actually try to get you unstuck.

Likely causes (based on what you described)

    • The Xbox App ↔ EA app connection is failing.
    • Game Pass Ultimate is active, but the EA entitlement isn’t syncing correctly.
    • The Xbox App is trying to hand off the download to the EA app, but it's timing out.

    Things to try (in order)

    1. Fully close both apps (Xbox App and EA app)
      • Make sure they’re not still running in the system tray.
    2. Sign out of both apps, then:
      • Open the Xbox App first and sign in
      • Launch EA app from within the Xbox App if possible
    3. Restart the PC (not sleep/hibernate)
    4. Open the Xbox App → Library → try downloading Madden again
    5. If it still fails, try downloading directly from the EA app to force the entitlement refresh

If none of that works, this moves out of “community troubleshooting” territory and into an account-level sync issue, which only EA Support can fix -- and they’ll need to check your entitlements directly.

    One last thing

Criticism is fair, but tossing out “multi-billion dollar company btw” doesn’t speed anything up here. Clear details + patience usually gets you farther -- especially in a community space like this.

    If you want, reply with:

    • Exact error message (wording matters)
    • Whether other EA Play titles download correctly

    We’ll take it from there.

Hey 8zfy92ygebiy Apologies for the late reply. I never got a notification of any activity on the thread, so thanks for the bump.

Thanks for sharing the error code -- that’s helpful.

Error -2147024891 typically points to a Windows permissions or authentication issue that’s preventing the Xbox App from properly connecting to the EA app. In most cases, this isn’t a Game Pass entitlement problem -- it’s the two apps failing to communicate correctly.

Let’s try a clean reset to fix the connection:

    1. Fully close both apps

    • Close Xbox App and EA app
    • Open Task Manager and end any remaining Xbox or EA processes

    2. Repair / Reset the apps

    • Go to Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps
    • Select Xbox App → Advanced Options → Repair
    • If that doesn’t help, select Reset
    • Repeat the same steps for the EA app

    3. Run as Administrator

    • Right-click the Xbox App → Run as Administrator
    • Then launch/download Madden from within the Xbox App

    Also double-check:

    • You’re signed into Windows with an administrator account
    • The Microsoft Store account matches your Xbox account

Just as a quick clarification as well -- this is a community forum, not live support, so response times can vary (especially over weekends). That said, we’ll absolutely try to help where we can.

    Let me know:

    • Does the error appear immediately or after clicking download?
    • Are other EA Play titles downloading normally?
    • Are you on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

We’ll narrow it down from there.

    8zfy92ygebiy

Got it -- thanks for the extra details.

Since you’re on Windows 11, the error appears immediately, and no EA Play titles download at all, that tells us this isn’t a Madden issue. It points to the Xbox App and EA app not properly connecting on the system level.

Let's see if these steps work:

    1. Reset through Windows Settings

    1. Go to Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps
    2. Find Gaming Services
      • Click Advanced Options
      • Select Repair
      • If that doesn’t help, choose Reset
    3. Repeat those same steps for:
      • Xbox App
      • EA app
    4. Restart your PC fully (not sleep)

    After restarting:

    • Open the Xbox App first
    • Try starting the download from there

    2. Refresh Microsoft Store sign-in

    1. Open Microsoft Store
    2. Click your profile icon → Sign out
    3. Close the Store completely
    4. Reopen → Sign back in
    5. Go to Library → Get updates

Windows 11 sometimes breaks Gaming Services silently, and this refresh can fix the handshake without needing command prompts.

If the error still appears instantly after this, then it’s likely either:

    • A deeper Gaming Services issue, or
    • An account entitlement sync that Support would need to refresh

    Let me know:

    • Has EA Play ever worked on this PC before?
    • Does the error code stay the same?
    • Are you logged into the same Microsoft account in Windows, Store, and Xbox App?

    We’ll keep narrowing it down.
