Downshifting

I checked the forum and couldn't find anything about this. Asked all my guys in our league to make sure it wasn't just me having this issue.
What physics were changed for downshifting aggressively at high rpms/speed?
Example, I'm coming into a corner, braking lightly and downshifting quickly, but the gears don't go down to where I wanted them to be. They'll get stuck it seems. Say around 3rd-4th depending on how fast  slow. I thought my paddles weren't working right.
That said I did do some trial and error. If speeds/rpms are not high, I can go from 8th to 2nd quickly. If at speed and rpms up over say 10.5k ish, it will only allow a few gears down until speed drops.
Is this something that changed? If so, what are the parameters for the rpm/shifting? I thought it may be because I was on TC. Seems that is not the case because others in my league are not using TC and still have that hesitation.
Can anyone elaborate on this?

  • This! I have fanatec mclaren v2 wheel on xbox series X, No TC here only ABS and have that issue.  I thought it was something mechanical with my paddles but its not, i have the magnetic shifter mod and sometimes the felt gets loose and affects the pivot and shifts but works fine on F1 25.  Seemingly have to double tap to get in the correct/expected gear when downshifting aggressively.   From what i recall i would agree with the high rev downshifts.

I heard about this in a YouTube video where someone was discussing the changes in this DLC. It bothers me too, but I'm getting used to the new realities of the game.

  • Well, it wasn’t really that realistic, I’d call it an improvement…

It is by design! In a real F1 car, if you slammed down the gears too rapidly, you'd either end up wrecking the gear box, blowing the engine or lock the rears and spinning. They have a built-in safeguard to prevent this.

It's just not how gears work! Try going from 6th to 2nd in your road car without dropping your speed or RPM. It physically can't be done!

  • You cant shift down when rpms are top high. Same in real life. Its to protect the engine. Its realistic. Learn to shift smoother

Yeah, just caught many off guard on day 1. Myself included. But we've since figured it out.
