Cant invite my friend to coop rivals eafc

I cant invite my friend from steam to play coop rivals but he can invite me. Im on Xbox series X and hes on steam. He shows up on my friends list but not on my list to invite friends. Super weird. We can play with his team but i cant invite to play with my team. We both have cross play enabled. Ive unadded him and added him back. Ive deleted the game and still nothing. Ive talked to ea support chat people and they are clueless, just robots telling me the same stuff and not addressing the issue. If anyone has a solution that would amazing. Thanks!
