It's not just a Sky problem. I have Spectrum and before last patch I was able to do more than what I can now which is exactly what you described in your post. I'm running on Xbox Series X, but due to this error on EA's end, have done my own troubleshooting steps since these clowns here either gaslight us or just marked it as solved regardless, uninstalled and installed the Xbox one version in hopes of some sort of workaround along with port forwarding, mobile hotspots, etc. Guess what, same issue. However, I did find in one of the b.s. steps provided by these clowns to log in to the companion app and "delete" squads that even when I had uninstalled the game it would not let me sign into the companion app to do said step. So deleted app and reinstalled with a new update was able to get in, and it worked for about 10 minutes before the menu lags appeared once again, or switching from SBC storage to club caused the ongoing FC logo to inevitably booting me. Its been a wild ride since FUT 09 but **bleep** after these so called promises and we hear you, along with these oversaturated promos and lack of accountability per usual this is probably the end of the road. Its frustrating beyond when most of us just want to pop a game in and enjoy. Can't really think of any other game where the actual game itself changes and has to be relearned to play due to the ongoing "patches".
