Fc 27 Career Mode
I have been playing FIFA/EA Sports FC since FIFA 14 and I have bought every single edition since then, with Manager Career Mode always being the mode I spend the most time on.
One of the areas that I believe still limits Career Mode significantly is the PlayStyles system.
At the moment, real players start with the PlayStyles assigned to them in the database, while Youth Academy players are generated with a certain set of PlayStyles. However, once a career begins, those characteristics remain far too static and do not truly reflect how a player develops or performs on the pitch.
What makes this even more noticeable is that EA already changes players’ PlayStyles from one game to the next based on their real-life performances and how their playing style evolves.
A player can gain a new PlayStyle, lose one, or even have a different PlayStyle+ in the next edition.
So why not apply the same logic inside Manager Career Mode?
My proposal would be to introduce a dynamic PlayStyles development system based on how players actually perform over multiple seasons.
The progression could work like this:
No PlayStyle → PlayStyle → PlayStyle+
For example, a striker who consistently scores finesse goals could eventually develop Finesse Shot. If he continues to excel at that type of finishing for multiple seasons, he could eventually develop Finesse Shot+.
The same concept could work for every position.
A defender who consistently records a high number of interceptions could develop Intercept and later Intercept+.
A centre-back who regularly blocks shots could develop Block.
A full-back who creates many assists through crosses could develop Whipped Pass.
A midfielder who repeatedly creates chances through through-balls could develop Incisive Pass.
Goalkeepers could also develop PlayStyles based on saves, reflex actions, crosses claimed, one-on-one situations or distribution.
However, the system should not simply work through artificial objectives such as “score 30 finesse goals to unlock Finesse Shot”.
It should take several factors into account at the same time: seasonal statistics, frequency of specific actions, efficiency, player attributes, position, playing time and consistency across multiple seasons.
That way, a PlayStyle would actually represent the technical identity that a player has developed during the career.
There should also be a reverse process.
As players age and change the way they play, some PlayStyles could become weaker or disappear. For example, a winger who has Rapid+ at 24 might lose that advantage later in his career as his pace declines, while developing PlayStyles related to passing, technique or vision.
This would make player ageing much more realistic as well.
Most importantly, PlayStyle development should not depend only on overall rating.
A 78-rated player could be exceptional at one very specific skill and deserve a PlayStyle+, while a 90-rated player could simply be an outstanding all-round footballer without being elite in one particular type of action.
Overall rating should represent how good a player is.
PlayStyles should represent how that player plays.
I believe this would be especially valuable for Youth Academy players.
A young player could enter the academy with a few natural traits, but then develop additional PlayStyles depending on how he is used and what he actually achieves throughout his career.
After five or ten seasons, players would no longer feel like the same footballers with higher attributes. They would have developed their own technical identities based on what actually happened in the save.
As someone who has been playing Career Mode since FIFA 14, I believe this would be one of the best possible additions to increase realism, depth, player development and long-term replayability in Manager Career Mode.
