Not registering XboxOne controller on PC
I recently downloaded the EA desktop app so I could download and play Mass Effect 3 online as I knew it was in my EA account.
However, upon booting the game up there is absolutely no recognition that my controller is plugged in. It is registering on my devices, and other games in Steam are working with it. But not this.
Is there a fix or a workaround please? I've seen several from years ago but none of them have worked for me.

Only the Original Mass Effect 3 has Multiplayer, so I assume we are talking Mass Effect 3, 2012?
If so, the Original Mass Effect 3 has no controller support at all. A controller will not work on the vanilla game.
On this EA Forum page you can find a link to a mod that adds controller support to the game.
(Multiplayer Native Controller Support Mod (ME3))Afaik the use of this Mod is save and you don't have to fear any problems in Multiplayer.
