Yes I have this problem also, Every other EA game I have via Origin works fine, its just this game. I click play, it looks like the game is about to launch as it goes to a black screen for half a second but then just goes back to the launcher.
This is so frustrating as I'm new to PC gaming and I'm not used to having games not work out the box. I have tried many of the possible fixes with no luck and I'm not able to get a refund. I bought the game from cdkeys who claim that because I used the activation code they can't provide me with a refund and that I would have to contact EA for my refund, but EA are saying they can't give me a refund because I didn't buy directly from them. This is ridiculous as I have something that does not work
@ALTBOULI313
Can you clarify if the app just crashes/doesn't launch when you press "play" on Steam/Origin or does the MELE launcher work but when you press start on any of the 3 games the launcher disappears, and then when they try to load they crash and send you back to the MELE launcher? Might just be my broken English but I think your description can be understood either way.
- 5 years ago@czarekm2003 I click the play button in Origin but the game doesn't launch, I know there is supposed to be a menu which the allows you to chose the game you want to play but I don't even reach that, my screen goes black for a second and then takes me straight back into Origin so to be clear it completely fails to launch anything.
I have tried:
Updating my GPU driver
Creating a new user
Change system locale to use unicode utf-8
Repair my game
Run as admin
Check windows defender to ensure its blocking my game
Uninstalling and reinstaling the game - 5 years ago@HazalGC98 Thanks im trying now, just created the dxdiag file, hopefully someone will be able to take a look and let me know what might be wrong
- holger14055 years agoHero+
You are running the game from Origin directly, no Steam involved?
I can't find your DxDiag?
I have a look at your Dump files and DxDiags again, and I need to think this through again after looking what I already suggested to you.
Will be back tomorrow.

So the problem I have is that when I try and launch the game the M logo application will appear in the taskbar, and nothing will happen for a couple minutes (I still see my desktop). If I click to tab to it, it'll come up as a black screen, and then crash to desktop again.
If I leave it running for a couple minutes, it will eventually pop up itself and actually (finally) run the intro cinematic for the launcher. And then when the cinematic ends, it'll crash.
However when I first installed the game, it worked. And then the day after, I had all this trouble, but eventually got back into the game again somehow. This was after a bunch of stuff like deleting nahamic (which keeps coming back) and verifying the game install files etc.
Today though, nothing works. So far I have -
- Deleted / stopped A-Volute and Nahamic (though they keep coming back).
- Turns on the unicode beta (though my username has no special characters)
- Installed newest nvidia drivers
- Tried the third party launcher (my cpu is new and has AVX support, but figured it was worth a try. Didn't work).
- Unplugged usb peripherals
- turned off antivirus
- added origin and mass to firewall
- turned off firewall entirely
- Verified game files
- deleted the entire origin cache
Probably some other stuff too. Nothing is working today.

I finally fixed the problem i just had to change Region and now i can play the game finally :D
- holger14055 years agoHero+
Was your region setting wrong or did you have to choose another region?
- holger14055 years agoHero+
There are many crashes of the "Radeonsoftware.exe", do other games work?
There are also crashes of the "EADesktop.exe" does it work for you?
Did you checked your EA regional setting?
What motherboard do you have? (Manufacturer and Type.)
Deinstall A-Volute.
There are only error reports of the "MassEffectLauncher.exe", but you say the Launcher works and the game is crashing?
There is a PAC2 error for the Launcher, do you have any compatibility setting in place for the "MassEffectLauncher.exe"?
If so disable them.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Yes other games work fine for me, I bought the original Mass Effect 3 along side the Mass Effect Legendary Edition (just so I could play the MP) That game works perfectly fine both in single player and multiplayer, I have also downloaded and played Starwars squadron with no issues.
I have tried these games on both Origin and EA Desktop with no issues, this is the first and only game I have so far that has had issues.
I should point out that I saved the game to an external hardrive and even re-downloaded Origin on my brothers computer (He has a an RTX 2060 and Intel CPU so completely different to my AMD setup) and the issue still persisted on his machine so I dont think its my graphics card or drivers tbh - holger14055 years agoHero+
You logged in with your account on your brothers computer?
Did you checked if the regional settings of your EA Account are correct?
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Yes my account on brothers computer, this was just to test that it wasn't some strange config/graphics manufacturer issue.
Yes I believe the region should be fine im set to UK in Origin though strangely when I went into the windows defender settings to check if Mass Effect Legendary Edition was being allowed it did seem to indicate it is a US version of the game, could that be the problem?
In windows defender it has the game name as Mass Effect Legendary Edition en_US.
Looking at May Effect 3 and Starwars Squadron they don't have this - 5 years ago@holger1405 Yes, I think that I ckeck properly te EA regional. I check in the page web and everything seems normal. I don't know if you ask for other setting.
About your second question, I don't know if i'm going to put the right information. My computer say that the product it's B150M-A version Rev X.0x and fabricated by ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. - 5 years ago
Anyone know if Mass Effect Legendary Edition is region locked?

I've uninstalled A-Volute and Nahamic several times, but it keeps coming back. I've currently got it disabled in device manager and the service disabled in the msconfig.
Origin Launcher loads up fine, but when I try and run the game (either through origin, or using the main desktop shortcut) it does as I described.
Last night I managed to get it working in the end, after disabling nahamic in msconfig, but today that's not working, so I suspect its unrelated it was just a coincidence.
The only compatibility setting I have is 'run as administrator', because that seemed to work the first night I had this problem. But doesn't work anymore. And I've turned that off, and it still doesn't work.
- holger14055 years agoHero+
You need to check it at EA.com, follow this link.
Windows update is probably reinstalling it because MSI flagged it as a necessary driver component.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Write or copy and paste hdwwiz.cpl into the new Window > Press Enter.
- In the device manager right click the "Nahamic" entry > Properties.
- Choose the "Details" Tab > expand the "device description" and select "Hardware ID"
- Copy the Hardware id to notepad or the editor.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time
- Write or copy and paste gpedit.msc into the new Window > Press Enter.
- Go to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions
- Double click the "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs"
- Activate the policy. > Click on "Display" beneath.
- Copy and paste the hardware ID into the "Value" box > Apply (OK)
- Check "Also apply to devices that are already installed" (Or similar, my Windows is not English 😉) beneath > Apply > OK.
- Deinstall the Nahamic device and the software.
Thanks, I will look it up.
May I ask what exactly worked for you?
- 5 years ago@holger1405 sorry not sure what you mean? What am I supposed to be checking? If its my profile region then yes its United Kingdom but I don't know if that means I can't launch a US version of the game or not? CDKeys state that the code they gave is a world wide 1 so assuming they mean it doesn't matter what region it is
- holger14055 years agoHero+
Yes, if the right region is set for your EA account.
The game is an international version, so it should still launch, but if the EA account is set to the wrong region, there may be problems.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Hmm ok let me play around with the region and see if that does anything

@holger1405 Any progress in my case? Got a problem with another game after updating from Win 7 to Win 10, read that the problem may be caused after such an update, and started wondering if that could've caused problems with MELE as well. Will do a clean OS install this week anyway, but could my problem be related to something screwing up during the update?
- holger14055 years agoHero+
If it is set correctly, leave it that way.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
- Look if there are any "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
- Post the link here.
If there aren't any dump files of ME:
- Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
- Play the game until it crashes.
- After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at free file hosting service like Dropbox.
- Post the link here.
If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f

The overlays are still disabled? If not please disable them again, also shut down Discord for the time being.
To be clear, all 3 must be disabled at the same time.
If you did not already done it, try to repair the game.
(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache.)Then preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
Make also sure that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
- Go here
- Choose your OS > Install all the newest drivers that are available. (Only the drivers, not Software or Utility.)
(Restart your system after any driver you installed.) - Test.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Thanks I will give that a try tomorrow when I'm free and will update the thread with how I get on 👍
- 5 years ago
@holger1405
Did those thing already, but just now did them again for good measure:
1. Completely disabled overlays on both apps with Discord off, tested, didn't help
2. Verified files through Steam (did that 4-5 times already but just did it again), all files successfully verified
3. Checked for any modifications to settings I'd have forgotten about, GPU is in factory settings, my CPU has overclocking locked, OC Genie was off
4. Just did a clean boot with Microsoft Defender completely disabled, tested, game didn't change in behaviour in any way, games still crash after selection and send me back to the launcher
