So the problem I have is that when I try and launch the game the M logo application will appear in the taskbar, and nothing will happen for a couple minutes (I still see my desktop). If I click to tab to it, it'll come up as a black screen, and then crash to desktop again.
If I leave it running for a couple minutes, it will eventually pop up itself and actually (finally) run the intro cinematic for the launcher. And then when the cinematic ends, it'll crash.
However when I first installed the game, it worked. And then the day after, I had all this trouble, but eventually got back into the game again somehow. This was after a bunch of stuff like deleting nahamic (which keeps coming back) and verifying the game install files etc.
Today though, nothing works. So far I have -
- Deleted / stopped A-Volute and Nahamic (though they keep coming back).
- Turns on the unicode beta (though my username has no special characters)
- Installed newest nvidia drivers
- Tried the third party launcher (my cpu is new and has AVX support, but figured it was worth a try. Didn't work).
- Unplugged usb peripherals
- turned off antivirus
- added origin and mass to firewall
- turned off firewall entirely
- Verified game files
- deleted the entire origin cache
Probably some other stuff too. Nothing is working today.

I bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Steam. I downloaded the game and started it and i came to the launch screen, where you see the three games. When i press to play any of the games, first second or third game, they won't launch. I just get a black screen and then it returns to the title screen. No matter how many times i click play i always end up at the launcher screen again, none of the games will start. So i got a 59,99 euro launch screen.
Yes both Steam and Origin is booted.
All graphical drivers are up to date.
My rig has Ryzen 5 3600XT and a 5700 XT gpu so hardware isnt a problem
Things i have tried: Verify the intergrity of the game files in Steam, didnt work.
Run Steam, Origin and the game itself as administrator, didnt work.
I have Norton 360 as the antivirus, i have disabled the smart firewall, didnt work.
Tooled around the firewall, like enable mass effect etc, didnt work
Repair button on Origin didnt seem to work, but that could be because that i have the steam version so nope.
Launch the game on Origin instead of Steam didnt work
The only thing i haven't tried is reinstalling the game. I have a slow internet connection at home so i hope it won't come to that but if nothing else works i guess i have to give it a try.
PLEASE HELP! Any help at all would be great.

Its a really horrible situation for everyone still having issues, the game has been out now for 10 days and many of us are still not able to play the game we purchased. I cant even get a refund, its ridiculous that these issues still havent been addressed by the devs
- 5 years ago@ALTBOULI313 I refunded yesterday as I encountered similar launch issues on origin. I did try couple of fix methods here and it didnt work, I refuse to change my pc settings anymore.
Might try buying from steam but tbh I am afraid same will happen because steam also requires origin. I hope they fix this soon with a patch but I doubt it. - holger14055 years agoHero+
Some errors that lead to MELE not starting are errors in the game that should be fixed, but some are problems on the end user system Bioware has no influence over.
If you are not troubleshot you don't know which one is the case for you and if a fix might help you.
- 5 years ago@reflowkt Cant get a refund currently, EA are acknowledging that the game has issues but have stated that I need to get a refund from CDKeys (whom I bought the activation code from) CDKeys are saying because I activated the code they cant provide me with a refund and I would have to get a refund from EA/Origin. So both parties are trying to weasel out of reimbursing me due to a clearly defective/broken product.

Try what I suggest, if it runs in save boot there is a driver on your system that prevents the game from running.
- 5 years ago@holger1405 Ok and if it is a driver issue, would I be able to tell which driver it is or would it then be trial and error to try and determine which one it might.
Basically this has been an extremely frustrating experience for me, I have tried so many of the possible solutions and spent way more time than I wanted, If its possible for me to get my money back (which it should be) then it might be the less stressful route. Will try your suggestion though... - holger14055 years agoHero+
No, it still would be trial and error, there are some drivers that would be more common than others but in the end it is trial and error.
If you don't want to do this, wait for the next patch that might purge some incompatibilities, if it is still not working after that you will find me here. 🙂

Hi again, Holger!
I did my best to interpret the commands and fill in file paths specific to my PC, but I don't think I understand the language well enough to enter the command correctly. Any chance you could break it down a little further for me, please? Thanks!
- holger14055 years agoHero+
It should work regardless of the OS language.
Just copy and past findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt into an elevated command prompt. > Hit ENTER.

I see what you're saying. I attempted to replace portions with file paths using file paths specific to my PC. Ran the command, file attached. Thank you!
