This is indeed weird.
Did you deinstalled the realtek audio drivers completely and disable the realtek sound device in the device manager or in the BIOS?
Repair the game again.
(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > Game Library > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)
Repair the game.
(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > Game Library > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)
Then clear your Origin cache.
All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.
- Close Origin completely.
(right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close) - Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
- Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder.
(The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.) - Delete the "Mass Effect Legendary Edition" folder inside the "LocalContent" folder.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy and paste "%AppData%" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
- Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder.
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Roaming" folder.
- In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on "AppData".
- Open the "Local" folder.
- Delete the "Origin" folder inside the "Local" folder.
- Restart your PC. > Log in online for the first time > test offline.
If you use EA Desktop. https://help.ea.com/de-de/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
I've sadly tried all of these things already. None have worked.

You have the game on Origin?
look at this guide. to preform a clean uninstall of Origin.
- Scroll down to "How to uninstall the Origin client the hard way"
- Follow the instructions to the letter.
- reboot.
- Download this version of the "OriginSetup.exe"
- Run the installer as Administrator (Right click the "OriginSetup.exe" > Run as an Administrator) > Test.

I have it on steam.

Still can't launch the game sadly.. I am shocked they would launch a game in such a terrible state.

Lets try somthing:
- Go to your "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin" folder. (or wherever you have Origin installed.)
- Right click the "EALink.exe" > Properties > compatibility > check "Run this program as an administrator" > Apply (OK).
- Test.
Try the same as above.
I'll try this. Should I also run anything else as admin for this idea or just EALink?
- holger14055 years agoHero+
You can test with Origin and Steam in and off Admin mode as well.
Sadly didn't work either. If we discover a fix before the devs hopefully fix it no matter what I'll be shocked at what ever was causing the problem.

You preformed the clean installation of Origin?
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
- Look if there are any "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
- Post the link here.
If there aren't any dump files of ME:
- Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
- Play the game until it crashes.
- After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect1.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at free file hosting service like Dropbox.
- Post the link here.
If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f

Hi,
is EA at least working on a patch to fix this issue? I have it since day 1. ME 1 works rest wont start. Tryed EVERYTHING in this and steam forum ( took me around 11+ hours already).
Im just curious if its worth waiting.
- holger14055 years agoHero+
A patch is coming, but I don't have a timeline and I can't say that it will solve your problem simply because I don't know what it is.

Hey guys! I had this problem where I could play Mass Effect 1 with no problems at all, but when I tried to launch Mass Effect 2 or 3 it would send me back to the launcher screen.
In my case I solved this by removing the files of the Licenses foider in C:/ProgramData/Electronic Arts/EA Services/License and restarting EA Desktop/Origin. The program will re-acquire the licenses and you'll have new ones in that folder.
I found this fix while searching for some way to repair my Fifa 21 on PC. In that case the problem was exactly the same, it previously worked but after some days without playing I found myself stuck in the launcher as well.
Edited for formatting

Ok so I have tried all of the suggestions here and the launcher work around has worked for ME3 only, when I try to launch ME1 and 2 they freeze and I get the not responding issue and have to close them, when I got ME3 working it worked absolutely fine on full specs, no crashes and played it for over and hour to make sure, I am on Origin not steam, would appreciate any help please as I would rather not go through the hassle of getting a refund off EA

I don't even have EA desktop BUT THIS WORKED AND I CAN NOW LAUNCH ALL MASS EFFECT GAMES FROM THE LAUNCHER. HOW IN THE HELL OUT OF ALL THINGS DID THIS FIX MY PROBLEM! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIX MY GAMES FOR 2 WEEKS!!

here you go.
Thanks for the help - holger14055 years agoHero+
I assume you mean the delation of the License folder fixed it?
If so, could you please still provide the DUMP files so I can see what error is related?
There is a "AppHangTransient" and a "AppHangB1" error regarding Mass Effect 1.
The first is often related to insufficient disk space, but that is clearly not the case on your system, the second is often driver related.
Please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
Make also sure that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
Ok I did the clean boot and it did not work either, I have noticed I still have ME1 and ME2 installed on steam so I am going to uninstall them just in case there is some weird error
- 5 years ago
Right? I am getting a bit Impatient... tbh.
I bought the game the day it came out. I was so excited for it. I have tried every fix I could find except the one where. I think I saw people were using a modded launcher. At that point, I figured if that's what is needed I am just going to wait until they patch it. I've spent so many hours trying to fix it.
It's just so disappointing.

This way we can find out if it is indeed the costume launcher that might solve the problem.

@Vertical-Tokens Please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/
@Vandel4176 The MELE runs just fine, plus or minus some old and new bugs, on the vast majority of systems, if this and other forums are any indication. There's no way the developers could possibly test on anything close to all possible hardware configurations, even setting aside various system issues that would likely be unique to the individual.
If you'd like to troubleshoot your particular issue, please describe it in more detail, and post a dxdiag as well.

Hi again, Holger,
Still no improvement. I've looked into other solutions elsewhere, too, with no luck yet. Are we out of options? Thanks again!
