Re: Cannot connect to the Cerberus Network (Technically EA's servers)

@LuciaCBG

Sorry for the late answer.

Are you on a private or a public (University) network?

Do you use special characters in your user name or E-Mail?

@KingPhilip128

There should be no need to redeem the Cerberus network key.

If I understand you correctly you can't log in and you get the error message in game?

Are you on a private or a public (University) network?

I too have a similar difficulty to LuciaCBG.  I recently purchased ME1 and ME2 through the Origin web site to replay them.  My current system is not reading/accepting the original CD-ROMS I have from when I first purchased the games.

When I open the ME2 game and attempt to log in to the Cerberus Network using my Origin username and PW, the game tells me, "The Password does not match the one associated with this email. Please try again."  I have, to no avail.

When I click "Email my password" nothing has arrived in my email inbox.

I cannot access the game's DLC without logging into the Cerberus network, nor can I import my recently completed characters from ME1 until I can do that.

Sorry, and thank you in advance for any assistance.

First, did you tried to redeem the CD keys of the old games in Origin?

If not and you are still eligible for a refund of the new games I would suggest to try it.
But of course only after the problem is solved.

This means there is a different email associated with your account.

If you can't remember or don't have access to this email account any more, you should contact EA directly. If you are not from the US change the country in the top right corner.

If you have trouble with the contact attempt look at this guide

    @holger1405

    Hi,

My difficulty does not seem to be actually launching the game.  I have set up a totally different email account to use as the account for this game (ME2) and that launches now launches it to the screen that requests the Cerberus Code.  When I selected, Connect for the Cerberus Network, I get asked to redeem the Cerberus Code.  I use the code from my original game and I get the message "Communication with the Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out.  Please try again later."

And, of course, now I can't play the game with any DLC because of that.

Unfortunately, your link you provided for me to contact EA directly simply brings me back to the "Help Pages" that brought me to this forum in the first place. 😕  The "Contact Us" system seems to be designed to prevent casual users such as myself from "penetrating the bureaucracy".

Sorry for being such an "Old Fart" with this, but darn it, I repurchased the games because my original CD-ROMs can no longer be read by my updated computer.  [Sigh]

Thank you for your assistance thus far. 👍

    Hevy Phyzx

  • @Hevy_Phyzx;  You didn't need to repurchase the game.  Your "Product Code" (CD-Key) would have allowed you download it via EA/Origin at no charge.

That said, have you tried the "Repair" option in EA/Origin?

    • The link to EA's Support is here. If you are not from the US change the country in the top right corner.
    • Choose "Contact us" (Top Bar) and then Choose "Origin" from the list.
    • Choose PC > Choose "Manage my Account" > "Can't log in" > Select contact Option.
    • You should get a chat option now. (Please note the business hours.)

You also could try EAs Support on Twitter or on Facebook.

Edit: The Cerberus network key is outdated, you don't need it anymore.

@ThandalNLyman - I repurchased the games because my upgraded PC from when I had played ME1 and ME2 originally would no longer "read" the CD-ROMs and I didn't take the time to wade through all the ephemera on the help pages to figure out how to download the games from Origin since I had the old CDs.  With that said, my ME1 games is FANTASTIC and now I have Pinnacle Station and the Asteroid mission (which indicates how old my original ME1 game was).  My ME2 Game has been a disaster trying to get it to run and recognize my EA account.

@holger1405 I am a U.S. resident.  My Origin Account is fine.  I can access it so get to my games.  I play ME3 Multiplayer frequently.  I am annoyed that in ME2, the Cerberus Network won't recognize my Origing/EA account password.  I keep getting the message "The password does not match the one associated with this account."  That seems to be my primary issue...  The CN in the game is not recognizing my EA account.

Today (Sunday, 13 Sept) I spent a fair amount of time with an EA representative through their live chat.  The Rep provided me with several places to go to hopefully activate the Cerberus Network.  None of them provided me with the information necessary to activate the CN in game.  Finally after a considerable wait for the Rep to consult with her/his colleagues, she/he reported back to me that "Unfortunately, ME2 is a "Sunset" game, and they are no longer offering support for it."

SOOOOoooooo...it looks like I made a purchase that I cannot use.

Do any of you have a "work around" so that I might be able to get ME2 up and running with all its DLC?  Or am I stuck playing the "Vanilla" game?

Thank you for all you efforts on my behalf.

    Hevy Phyzx

  • @Hevy_Phyzx;  It is absolutely NOT TRUE that ME2 is a "Sunset" game.  That canard has been circulating in the EA help desk community for a while now, but it simply ain't so.

That said, I'm not sure what you mean by "wade through the ephemera" to d/l the game:

    1. Log-on to EA/Origin.
    2. Select "Origin" from the top-line menu.
    3. Select "Redeem Product Code"
    4. Enter the CD-Key from your disc version (or from new one you bought)
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions
    6. Profit!

Let us know how you make out.

There can be a problem with this specific game inside your account. Did the reps mentioned that they checked your account?

    I asked that before:

Are you on a private or a public (University) network?

Do you use special characters in your user name or E-Mail or is your password longer than 16 characters?

    Hi again Holger,

Sorry to be so dense here.  Mea Culpa.

No, the representative did not say whether she/he had checked my account.

I am using my home's Internet Connection.  I have a cable ISP (Spectrum Internet in Up State NY).  I hope I have made my network private (The WiFi is PW protected).  My machine is hard-wired into the router (ethernet cable).  There are two other computers connected via hardwire into the network and my son's PS3 and PS4, as well as our printer connect to it via WiFi (password protected).

My username is my email address, correct?  It is simply [edit: email address removed] [not my real email, but you get the idea].  No special characters in that.

My PW has one special character in it, but otherwise is only eight (8) characters long.  Mix of caps and lowercase and digits.  The special character is not one of the "prohibited" ones like \ or & (due the HTML necessities of those characters).

I hope that helps your analysis.

Thank you again for you patience with this "old fart" gamer.

    Dear ThandalNLyman,

Hmmmmmmm.  Well then, I wonder why the EA rep said that.

OK, I will give you advise a try.

Now, since I have purchase and downloaded the "electronic" or "soft" version of the game, I need to use the code from the game.  I find that code by "Right Clicking" on the game and then clicking "Game Properties".  The window that pops up has:

    Game Manual [hyperlink]

    Epilepsy Warning [hyperlink]

CD Key: [20 Character Alphanumeric key code]

Added to Library - [Date Added]

Its that CD Key, you're referring to, correct?  I will give it a go and see what results.

Thanks you for your patience with the "old fart" gamer.

    Dear ThandalNLyman,

Well...  I get the message "This code has already been redeemed." with a red exclamation point in the box where I entered the CD Code.

    Sigh...

Sorry for being so inept at this.

Good Gravy...  I can't seem to type a grammatically correct sentence without typographical errors anymore.  UGH.

Sorry for sounding like someone who forgot all his high school English class curriculum.

Please try to change your Password to something without any special character (only "ascii" character.) on EA.com. > Test.

  • Thanks Holger1405 ! Everything else was failing, but modifying the password worked for me !

  • I've tried changing my password, disabling 2 Factor Authentication, deleting Origin caches, forwarding ports, disabling the firewall and running the game (as well as Origin) as admin but nothing has helped so far.

    @dejavu64541

OK, first, enable 2 Factor authentication again, it will not make any difference.

You password is not longer than 16 characters?

Your E-Mail is not containing any spacial characters except the @?

Are you on a private or a public (University) network?

Make sure this ports are open at your router:

    Origin Ports

    TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 3216; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900

    UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900

    ME2 Port

    TCP 42100

    TCP Port Range 15200-15300

    TCP Port Range 9945-9994

    TCP 80

  • @holger1405 Password is not longer than 16 characters. Email does not contain special characters. I'm at home, not using university network. All the required ports are open.
