problems with Farm Merge coins

I have been playing Farm Merge for over an hour.  Sometime I will go to another game but then come back to it

I could have sworn that mygolden coin total was over 800 because I was thinking that I would soon be able to buy land.  Now my golden coins are 250   I have not bought any land so don't know why the total would go down..
