Issue with Pre-Wind Input Triggering Unintended Stalls in Pools

Hello EA skate developers,

I am Japanese and not very good at English, so I am using ChatGPT to help write this. I apologize if anything is unclear.

I have been playing skate since the original game, and I mainly enjoy skating pools, bowls, and ramps.

Since the introduction of Pre-Wind, spinning no longer works the same way as in previous titles. Because of this, when I try to perform spins of 540 degrees or more in pools using Pre-Wind, the game often triggers an unintended stall/grind on the coping instead.

This happens even when I have enough speed. The skater suddenly snaps into a stall and stops unnaturally, which feels unrealistic and very frustrating during gameplay.

I actually like the Pre-Wind mechanic now, but the overlap between the Pre-Wind input and the stall/grind input causes this problem very frequently.

Would it be possible to address this issue?

For example, by separating the stall/grind input to another button or adjusting the input detection so Pre-Wind spins do not unintentionally trigger stalls in pools and bowls.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you will consider improving this behavior.

Best regards,

  • This feels like user error cause i never have this problem, based on this video it seems like this is a very specific case.

Stalls or grinds are triggered by basically power sliding. You cannot do this if crouched for an ollie which prewind requires. So, of this is happening it's probably cause you're doing the pre-wind AND ollie as you reach the coping instead of before. So, you might be triggering a slide instead of a pre-wind but can't tell since the input is so fast.

The pre-wind is not really designed to be triggered frame perfect on the coping, you can hold it before then.

To me this just sounds like you're trying to very quickly do an input and failing sometimes. Like I do a lot of prewind with flips, which requires input as soon as you get air, but it is possible to do, but doesn't seem explicitly designed to allow it.

  • The pre-wind input rotates 45 degrees from down on the left stick—so the initial input starts from down.
But for stalls (getting onto a ledge/curb), you also input down on the left stick. That means the inputs for pre-wind and stalls overlap.

Are you even playing half-pipe under the same conditions as me? Because that completely changes how inputs behave.
I’m playing on the hardest settings with fully technical control: all assists off, no semi-auto pump—everything is fully manual. I don’t push at all.

Can you score 260K in 5 minutes in half-pipe slowdown under these conditions?
Honestly, I’ve rarely seen anyone better than me at half-pipe. I have over 15 years of experience with EA Skate. In Skate 2, I was ranked near the top globally in Spot Battle.

I’ve taught more than 10 players, and they’re all experiencing the same issue.

So please don’t give me vague or uninformed answers.
