Arena/Fleet Battle Timeout solution

Hey guys, just got out of a tense fleet battle where I timed out right before being able to destroy the last enemy. I was one, maybe two attacks away from victory when the dreaded clock struck zero. Now, I've seen many people online over the years complaining about how short the Arena/Fleet battles are, and how certain teams have such high survivability, it takes the full 5 minutes simply to push through the tank(s). I see a solution that seems glaringly simple to such a common issue without editing animation speeds or the timer itself.

Why not instead of timeouts automatically ending in a draw, give the win to the team with the most surviving members/most HP leftover at the end of the match? That way, even if you time out, it won't just end in a draw, rather you'll be given a win or loss based on your performance/leftover HP.

Nothing more frustrating than finally climbing over a Revan or Phoenix squad, whittling them down to one or two members, then timing out for a draw. It seems like such a simple, almost braindead solution I can't see why nobody hasn't proposed it before, at least from what I've seen online. Just a thought, it seems like a very simple fix to a very common problem.

  • Well there are 2 shoes.  The other shoe is your opponent who is glad you timed out.

    I don't really have an issue with your proposal for arenas, it's just a climbing environment after all.  I think though, with more experience and a better portfolio of teams, this will become less of an issue for you.

    However, for GAC part of the strategy is putting teams on defence to timeout your opponent.  If your suggestion was put in Grand Arena too, that massively affects the playing environment.

    After some thought, your idea couldn't really be used for GAC I guess, as there are no draws.  Also, a possible drawback is that players use Arenas as a 'sandbox' mode.  Testing teams against certain combinations.  Having draws gives you the option to practise vs the same team again and again.

  • I think the idea has been proposed before, and a lot of players have brought up the same issue each time: if what you suggest gets implemented in TW/GAC, all you have to do is go in, take out even just a single enemy toon, maybe do a bit of damage, and just let the battle time out. Which may not seem too bad for when you yourself are going on offense, but the same change would also benefit your opponent(s). Try to imagine what would happen then in GAC, and especially in the guild-event that is TW.

    To clarify my post, I'm not talking about Grand Arena or Territory Wars. I'm only referring to non-guild related Fleet battles and Arena battles that are unlocked in early game, not GAC, TW, or anything Guild related. Simply talking about the solo Arena/Fleet battles.     Well, your proposition is not simple at all, on the contrary, your solution seems overly complicated to implement and is prone to a number of shenanigans. It is much easier to just add an 8x animation speed or increase the timeout. Anyway, CG have had years to implement such simple solutions but they have not done so, so I doubt we will ever see anything like your proposal.

    Fleet Arena battles and to a lesser extent solo Arena battles have rewards though, and this could easily be gamed by using a super fast Han Solo to shoot first just before timeout and win or by using a fleet with a fast ship to make one hit and then timeout
