Switching from a common character to one that has ~3% the number of R7s or ~3.6% the number of R7+ is not fair to the player base. It, realistically, should have been characters like Sith Trooper, Malak, Darth Revan, Sidious, KRU, or Kylo. Those would have been good picks that were favorable to the players.

They've been clear that Ops are a way for them to get you to gear up toons you would not otherwise prioritize. So you should expect that they're either going to take your GLs from you (so you can't rely on the same old thing and have to gear up lesser toons in order to win CMs) or they're going to require something most players would never want to take to relic. That's how it is. The point of Ops is to force you to broaden your roster, and they aren't going to change their philosophy now. The toons you've listed are all required at high relic for other reasons. There's no need for CG to require them at the same relic levels for this.

That’s obviously the strategy, yes, but in the present context, with it being a short notice change with significant impact, after many guilds have already put in the effort to fill all the operations by putting relics on this other units, it would have been sensible to replace the one here with a common r7 character.

Yep. People have already put in the effort to finish ops for Tatooine. Adding a new character to the ops that wasn't around when ROTE came out and still isn't accelerated could push some guilds back a ways on completing Tat ops. And some of those guilds could be relying on completing ops to make the Reva mission easier. It's an unforeseen obstacle that players should not have to deal with. For this reason, the operation character should have been a softball. They should have used a very common character. A decent number of operation characters have been GL reqs, what's one more?

It is not the fault of the players that CG messed up by putting Fifth Brother in that slot and then left it unchanged for a year. Players/guilds shouldn't be potentially punished for this.

/e Leave it as is for now, because guilds have probably already had players dump resources into chieftain to get ready. But in the future, any changes should be mostly non-issue characters.

I mean, I hear the argument that the short notice argues for a more common character, but how many guilds currently getting 6/6 Ops on Tatooine do not have anyone in the guild with an r5+ Chieftain? My guild had 2 r7s and I would have taken Chieftain to r7 tomorrow if it had been necessary (just did a small bunch of r8s and I'm short Electrium Conductors for the moment or I could have done it today).

I'm more in favour of arguing for longer lead times than I am in favour of arguing for common toons to replace their mistakes (and/or toons that become required for SMs as new missions and planets are added). Mostly because I simply think we're going to be more successful arguing for the former. And, frankly, I think that Chieftain is common enough when you're talking about the guilds that are 6/6 on Tat Ops. It's not like we need 8 copies of him.

I'm not opposed to using Sidious or whomever for these types of swaps, I just don't think that's a fight we can win, so I'm not interested in spending my energy there.

Immediately and needlessly dismissing the most correct course of action the devs should have taken (and also the one that happens to be the most favorable to the player base) helps to guarantee that it's one the players can't win.

Two of our 14 guilds in the 330m to 470m GP range had a Chieftain at R7. A good chunk had one at relics, but not R7. A handful don't have one at relics, but they are 7*. Dropping under 330m gets significantly worse.

This was a bad decision and we should make it known that this was a bad decision so that any similar changes made in the future will be made in our favor.
