Current state of the game

Here are some of my thoughts as well as those in my guild on where things have come to in this game:

1) Bored. This can be broken down into a couple spots.

1a) GW again is taking way to long. Many in my guild are unable to complete it day after day now. This is after months of being able to complete it. The June 15th update allowed us to spend maybe 20 minutes of our day on it. The June 29th has many of my guild mates spending 1+ hours on a single run through. So with the GW guild event, it requires 3+ hours of time for an event they cannot finish anyways. As many have said, if we wanted to spend that amount of time playing a game, it wouldn't be on our phone but rather exploring the worlds of fallout, elder scrolls, far cry, etc...

1b) The gear grind is to much of a grind. Most in my guild are taking nearly a month or better to add a single gear piece for gear 9 or 10 to a character. The raid drops are terrible. (We are a T6 raid and definitely not ready for T7) what farmable purple gear / salvage we do need is a terrible drop rate. I had 2 stretches for the MK6 syringe salvage where I had a 1/17 and 1/12 drop rates. Many of my guild mates are having the same issues. The challenges don't offer much help in the gear we need and could he reworked. But please keep the MK6 syringe salvage bc without that, it would take ages to get the 650 I currently need. Also, let's add more levels to the challenges.

3a) New challenges are to hard for many in my guild. I know plenty of you will say they are almost all f2p toons required. And while true, even as a f2p player you can only farm shards, training droids, credits so fast. Now, I'm not hating on these new events. I think it's great they are adding new content. But I'm in the group that would also like more tiers, easier tiers with less rewards to allow more folks to compete. The credit crunch is tough for many... And unfortunately for many, these events aren't helping like it does for many others bc they can't compete at or finish the event if they have just enough toons to compete.

Ok, I guess there was only 1 with a few sub points to it. But ultimately, the game is taking so long for lots of folks to build up a team. Events aren't helping most in my guild. GW has become frustrating all over again. The raid rewards and gear collection in general is terrible. Drop rates for shards (which most of my guild isn't even doing anymore bc gear has become to important) and gear is a joke.

Due to all of this, over the last 2-3 weeks our guild has had 6 members drop out. Not only drop out of the guild, but leave the game altogether. In general, they have all said its to time consuming, frustrating, to slow to build toons and grind gear. They simply aren't having fun.

So, those are some of the thoughts from myself and guild mates on what we've noticed over the last month or so. Do you agree, disagree? Or maybe agree and disagree with certain parts of this post?

  • The more you spend, the more you will need to spend. You will never have the perfect roster, and they will keep adding more content to get you to spend more. In the end, if they shut down the game and all of your hard earned money is gone, are you ok with that? One of my guild mates spends over $500.00 a month on the game. Holy Cow!!! You can buy an XBox One or PS4 for that amount. That's a month's rent, that's a car payment. Well, it's your money, but the game can go away without any notice or any money refunded. You will have nothing to show for all that money spent, except memories.
  • I totally agree with the fact that this game demands way too much time for what it gives. I enjoy fighting challenging battles: Arena, Raid, Events, period. I enjoy (slowly) collecting and developing characters, so I don't mind the lottery-style grind. The rest is just forcing me to waste time and slowly pushes me away of playing this game. More precisely, they should:

    1) Make GW a weekly thing, not daily
    2) Remove challenges altogether: they have exactly no interest/fun at all. It's 100% a chore (even if an easy one)
    3) Rebalance the grind a bit... although since this is mostly a collecting game, we have to have something to collect, so I don't mind that it's slow. At least, simming battles doesn't take long.
    4) Move Arena payout to be a daily average instead of a precise time of the day

I'll be honest, too long post to read it all. But the reason this game still going on its star wars.
Freemium games are a psychological warfare, they rely on people getting addicted and that they will not leave because:
    1 they love star wars
2 already invested too much money to leave
3 invested too much time to leave.

    1. Plenty of other places to get a Star Wars fix.
    2. I spend more money in one night at a bar or a ball game than I (used to) in a month on this game.
    3. I've walked away from MMOs wherein I'd invested hundreds of *days* worth of play time, let alone hours. The only thing that really keeps players around long haul despite a poor or exploitative game experience is strong bonds with clan mates, which this games does its very best to undermine.

This is only my infinitesimal experience. But I'm willing to bet I'm far from alone.
  • GW got buffed to insane levels, Level 80 maxed gear and stars team of RG, Rey, GS, Dooku, with a Phasma lead just destroyed my level 72 guys.
  • My main issue is the time. I play mobile games almost exclusively now because I do not have the time and am not in one location to play a PC or console game. The draw of these games is you can pick it up for 5 minutes while you are on the can, waiting at the doctor's office, etc., log some progress and then put it down. No need to find that save point to log your progress.

The issue with the game as it is now is that I am spending too much time having to keep up and it is usually at inopportune times (dinner for arena and guild rewads). It's no longer optional if you want to stay competitive but the biggest downside is the fun is getting sucked out.

I switched to FTP after investing about $400 in this game. I unfortunately see myself stopping altogether in the next month or so if I still feel like I spend so much time not having fun. It's become an exercise is checking off boxes rather than enjoying myself.

I don't mean to take this the wrong if I am... But I'm not asking/calling for/or hoping the game gets shut down. I would be pretty upset if they shut it down. I do like the game and think it could have way more pitential than what it currently has. I've been playing since the holidays and have invested a lot of time and a little money. Maybe $100 on the game in all. For me, that's enough money for sure. I'm not a wealthy person where I can drop $500 a month on this game. But I can justify $5-$10 here and there. So I would be upset with even the mi way I have invested and more importantly the time investment, if this game disappeared.

I was just trying to see if there were others who had the same feelings about what this game has become as I have as well as many members / former members of my guild have.

And to add to this point... A month ago we lots a BIG hitter in our guild due to being bored with the game. Today... We lost our BIGGEST hitter due to being bored with this game and the amount of time required. He told us the only reason he's stuck it out this far is bc he likes the members of our guild. But today he's says good bye to the game and left us with his Xbox gamer tag.

We've been a guild stuck at a T6 raid bc every time we get a bigger hitter, they end up leaving the game altogether due to boredom. Something needs to change
