- No, 9/22 to 9/25 means 22, 23, 24, 25. If my vacation is 9/22 to 9/25, that means I have a vacation 9/22 through 9/25, not 9/24. It’s ridiculous.

You'd be wrong. "to" means "until". If it included 9/25, the word would have been "through".
Well, clearly I am wrong about when they intended double drops to happen. But I am not wrong about my own understanding of common English usage. Maybe they talk differently at EA, but if so, then their choice of wording is ripe for confusion, and they should describe event durations more clearly in the future."AleSahnDroh_1979;c-1284315" wrote:
Where was the countdown timer?
We all planned to "enjoy" the double drops for 4 days, so bad surprise this morning!
Not all of us are native English speaking, so it is not so clear that there is a so big difference between "to" and "until" or similar.
In my language if I say that I will be on holiday from 22 to 25 it means that I will come back to work on 26!!!
They should have written instead "double drops on 22, 23 and 24 September"......
This was an error, not a quirk of English. When speakers of Standard American English say "September 22 to September 25" they mean September 22, 23, 24, and 25."Sunnie1978;c-1284591" wrote:

The same was the case in Android. The countdown timer has been active for 72 hours and now people are pretending to be "surprised" that is over. :D
Yiu can argue the semantics of "to" meaning "until" vs. "through", but c'mon people. Open your eyes."Nikoms565;c-1284458" wrote:

The bolded is incorrect. It clearly says "to". If it had said "through", in American English, that would include the 25th. I realize British English makes no such distinction (hence the confusion) - but the developers are not in England, they are based in the US.
'to' is often also interpreted as 'through"Nikoms565;c-1284693" wrote:

Why would someone be compelled to click on the countdown, or even pay attention to the countdown, if they have a reasonable understanding of English and read the update notes here or through the in-game message system? I don't think it's unreasonable to expect update notes to be written in a way that are unambiguous. If they meant 'through' the 24th, that's probably what they should have said."snowhut;c-1284708" wrote:

Dude, pick a lane. On the one hand you suggest that the "to" can mean either (your "also interpreted), then suggest that no one should be confused enough to even check the countdown timer. And the argument about update notes being written in a way that's unambiguous is a strawman - no one would disagree. I agree - they should have either stated "through 9/24" or simply said "will run on 9/22, 9/23 and 9/24."
But even so, there was a countdown timer on the main screen of everyone's arena as well. I don't enjoy defending CG/EA, but people need to open their eyes and not try to blame someone else when the make a mistake.- When an event of any kind, anywhere, is advertised as 22-25 (or 22 to 25), that includes 25.

It was in reference to your original comment that 'to' means 'until'. I was also pointing out that it can also means through, depending on who you ask, which supports the assertion that the chosen wording was ambiguous. You understood it to mean what they apparently intended it to mean. Did you also check the timer when the update went live to verify that you and CG were on the same page? If you did, you must have recognized that it could be open to interpretation, which is good on you. If you didn't, why would anybody else if they didn't think they were wrong in there understanding of it, and didn't recognize it as an ambiguous statement?
I don't understand why your so strongly defending the issue, when this is another perfect opportunity to recognize that how things are stated, especially in regards to release notes and other technical details that influence how and when people spend their money, is important and should be given more thought. Had it been given the attention it deserves, this thread wouldn't even exist."snowhut;c-1284830" wrote:

I'm not "strongly defending" anything. I just find it amusing when people blame others for something they could have simply looked at the timer to get clarification on. I feel even less sorry for those who spent money without seeking clarification first - but I guess that's why infomercials work. And yes, I did look at the timer when it first came up - just to be sure.
I have admitted several times they could have/should have worded it better - which is why I find it interesting that I am accused of "defending". I've even given examples of how it should have been worded to be more clear. Just because it was worded in a way that was ambiguous doesn't absolve players from looking at the provided in-game timer.
I am all for taking CG to task when they make mistakes and do things that are misleading or borderline unethical (check my responses in the 5*/7* thread or the 20k crystals one or even go back to modgate if you are so inclined). If there hadn't been an in-game timer or the post said "9/22 through 9/25", I'd probably be handing out pitchforks and lighting torches too. But it doesn't. This was neither intentionally misleading nor unethical. It was an ambiguous phrase in the update made completely clear in-game with a timer."Nikoms565;c-1284064" wrote:

You are incorrect. In English, going "to" something always includes the end target. If you go to the grocery store, that doesn't mean you stop in the street outside the parking lot. If you rate a mobile game in the app store on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, that doesn't mean the highest possible rating is 4 stars. If you go to a music festival that runs September 22-25, it's a four day festival. Always.
The language was not in any way ambiguous. It was simply incorrect.
