I like double drops, so I don't expect to see them ever again.

Don't have any expectations and you wont be disappointed. If we do get them it will be a nice.little bonus. :)

Double drops seem to have been replaced by bonus drops of a certain limited set of characters or ships. Useful if you still need the ones they're offering, nit so much if you don't. Double drops had a lot more utility, and that was likely their undoing.

Not to be pessimistic but more realistic, I wouldn't count on it.

They are in full money grab mode now. The gear wall for DR that's never happened before. The low revenue for March compared to last year. Reducing hard node limits to 5 from 8 so people can't catch up.

We are either going to get another money grab legendary/journey character, or 5 marquee that require you to pay if you want them to stay competitive.
