Final thoughts on Military Might: Empire Assaulted Event

As in life, there is always the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY.

The GOOD: First off, I'd like to thank @CG_CapGaSP for a TREMENDOUS event, It was as tough, if not tougher than you said it was going to be. Also, Vader shards were linked to Tier 1, so that was an AWESOME thing. You didn't have to complete Tier 2 to get them nor did it offer any Vader shards. The 1.15 million credits was a great addition. I got 2.3 million for doing the two tiers for the first time and 150k thereafter for tier 1. Rewards were in line 100% for completion, not to mention more Shard Shop fodder.

There's a great Tier 1 strategy guide. The thing was to try to dust the Magmatroopers first since their AOE blows up your turn meter. Using the special event ability as much as possible was a great idea as well. Now, with that said, the Tier 1 strategy put together actually sort of works for tier 2, and that's using Han's taunt in the second stage. It doesn't ALWAYS work, but after a few times of running that strategy I was able to complete Tier 2 at 2* losing St Han right at the end because he got hit a few times in the 2nd stage. Before that I was frustrated because I got to the last level and it came down to Lando vs Palp with Palp in RED and I STILL got waxed.

The guide is here:

The BAD: Oh boy, where to I start? The difficulty level on tier 2 was SO tuned up that I literally gave up until I saw the strategy guide I referred to earlier. I completed it one the very last day. Tier 1 wasn't that hard. Tier 2 was out of this world crazy. It was probably the most difficult thing I've ever done in this game short of later Cantina nodes (The Maul one comes to mind) when you're under geared and under leveled. That's NOT to say that difficult is BAD, it's just the frustrating RNG aspect of it.

The UGLY: Overall I'd have to say the RNG factor of it. Some people completed it first try with 3*. Others like myself took what seemed like upmteen million tries just to beat it. The ugliness of that is that it was said to be for level 80's 7* with mods. My Rebels were all that INCLUDING full 5* Health mods with some swapped out for random speed arrows at 2 or 3*. It was kind of a slap in the face for us who farmed mods, farmed gear AND 5* mods including leveling those mods up to 15. It should not have been easy by any stretch of the imagination, but almost impossible was not what I was expecting especially when you dump that many resources into building your team just for this event (and others well, but I was so focused on this event). I could barely get Ackbar out of the Vader round and actually the 3rd round most of the time as well. I'm like "You have GOT to be kidding me" most of my attempts in Tier 2.

For those wondering, my roster I beat Tier 2 with is here: https://swgoh.gg/u/pac0naut/collection/

There are some changes I could have made, like maxing mods on Biggs and putting a matching set to the random arrows that I didn't really think of before yesterday. Once I finished Tier 2, I had ZERO desire to try again.

FOR THE FUTURE: I expect the Endor Assault with Empire and Droids to be just as hard for Tier 2, so, get your Empire BEYOND ready. For the next Empire Assaulted, whenever that may be, from what I hear Hoth Rebel Scout with his stun and TM manipulation helps very well and someone on Reddit was saying a Luke Skywalker lead helps a bunch too but that's unconfirmed. Stuns apparently make your life easier in this event. You'll need speed, so if you have the mods, better flex them. The p2p characters make life easier, but it's still doable for f2p. Those that couldn't complete it this time around, now we all have a better understanding of what we need. Lando and Biggs are superstars at this event for f2p.

Again, thanks Cap for a terrific event. You, sir, are on FIRE lately with these.

  • The difficulty on t2 was spot on. I still had no real issue completing each day, but I could not auto it, thankfully!
  • I could not come close to beating T2. I think it was scaled well and fun even if impossible for me. Hopefully, my squad will be better when it returns as I just unlocked.Wedge.

There's always going to be a subset of people that are unhappy no matter what I do, but I'm glad so many people seemed to enjoy the event. As has been stated elsewhere, the concept of a "Very Hard" tier is purely for challenge. I'm going to change the wording to "Bonus Tier" or something similar for Ewok Assault so that hopefully people feel less like there is something they MUST do, versus something they can try and if they fail no big deal. As for the differences between them, Ewok Assault is more "mechanical difficulty" in that there are definite mechanics you can do to win, and once you figure it out it's much less RNG (intentionally). So even though it's tuned up, I don't know if the increase is exactly comparable. I guess we'll see in a few weeks! As always, grateful for the feedback.

It's funny because I felt the exact opposite way when comparing the first iteration of each assault event.

The first rebel/clone event was very hard until I figured out exactly how to beat each stage. After I figured it out, I beat it every time.

The empire/droid event was of course very hard at first, and there were things to learn about each stage, but after I learned everything, it was down to rng if I could achieve victory. Often rng in stage 8/8, which was all the more frustrating.

When comparing the two military might events, the second iteration was relatively more difficult in terms of a gear check, but less so in terms of strategy. Since you can't taunt and force the ai to not aoe, you have to simply survive all the aoe. The higher gear(speed) made the boss battles much easier by comparison.

I'm interested to see the differences in the empire/droid event. If the pattern holds true stage 8/8 should be relatively easier.
  • Yeah, +1 enjoyed that. T1 was tough but doable first time. T2 i couldnt get past vader

I have g11 st han, g10 leia, g9 lando & ackbar and G8 biggs, all 7* and modded. So yeah.

My only issue is there did seem to be a number of bugs; the wrong people counter attacking, wrong people taking damage (unless some of the enemy can hit two people at once, but not an AOE?)

Doesnt really matter tho, the 10 vader shards were great

Interesting how 7* EP was much easier than getting a few veers shards tho, but not a complain.

I guess im going to struggle inthe ewok event.

    more like this please.

This is why I stopped trying after the second time. I realized there was a high element of rng, even for a well equipped team using perfect strategy. Simply not worth the time.

There's the problem. I spent millions upgrading mods and didn't get those speed mods, that seem to be one of the key elements here.

The assumption that we would have extra 60-80 speed on every toon is a faulty assumption.

I can't help but to be disappointed, especially as the message said to bring your toons modded. Well, I did. Now show me the trick getting speed arrow and secondaries.

I know I won't be bothering with the ewoks doing more than the first tier.
