There are people who lose on purpose just to be in lower leagues or divisions, because they get all in all more crystals with less effort. They have already done the maths on how many matches they have to lose so they don't get promoted too much but can win enough to get a nice amount of guaranteed crystals without needing to fight hard.
I'm sure there are niche cases where that scheme works, but in general for it to work, one would have to be able to accurately predict their future win/loss ratio, and actually deliver the required number of wins. I am having a hard time believing that that is practical. And there is the "observer changes the observed" thing - when there are enough people doing this, they would run into each other in lower brackets and basically drag down every one's win/loss ratio.
It's not about being practical. It's because they don't want to put much effort in GAC and their fights. Lower opponents make it easier for them. They prefer to not face similar rosters, because they just can put in a lot less effort and still get their crystals. Even if they are less than they would get in "their" league or division, it savs them time and effort.
And like I said, not everyone does that sandbagging game. There are also those who just in general don't participate in every round, which leads to inflated SR.
But, we shouldn't even focus on what exactly they do or don't do or why. We should focus more on the effect it has on everyone who is in those match ups. There are way too many facing this to see, that this is an issue.
For everyone supposedly sandbagging, someone else is getting free crystals. What's the problem?
1. It's a game and for a lot the most fun environment. Not having an actual competitive match up isn't fun for most.
2. It's upsetting the ranking system. I believe in it, but sandbagging isn't good for it.
3. Where will these sandbaggers end up? At the bottom of Carbonite 5? How good is that for new level 85 players? Faced with a much much larger account they can't do anything with.........but win anyway because of sandbagging.
How on earth would they end up on c5? The discussion is about people intentionally throwing a match or two to get a more winnable matchup.
Yeah, bad matchups aren't as fun, but I'll take the 700 or so crystals every time.
Because there are also thise that do not always participate, just sometimes. It was mentioned here too. And those end up in Carbonite and get matched against new players or at least a lot lower than they belong and get matched against smaller accounts. There are enough players talking about exactly that.
700 crystals for what? You mean the end of round after 3 wins? Or 1 win? 1 win in Bronzium for example does not give you 700 crystals. It's a lot less. If you mean the end of round, that would mean that they would have to face 3 opponents who do not participate or win a regular fight, which of course is highly unlikely.
And again, just because you would take it and don't care doesn't mean that other see it your way aswell. Case in point all the threads and comments saying otherwise and proving to you, that they feel differently about that. So let them. If it is ok for you the way it is, you don't face those problems. Do you really think people who have a problem with it will be persuaded to suddenly be ok with it just because it is ok for you? No matter what you say why it is ok for you, they will not feel suddenly better about their situation.
