Were they not nightbrothers before sidious ever recruited maul as his apprentice? Maul was a night brother before recruited by sidious, so was savage.
But than at that point savage should not have a sith tag...

Agreed, there is zero reason using EA/CG's logic in the rest of the game to not have maul and savage have synergy.
